homeless in london
« on: November 05, 2006, 12:02:16 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get temporary shelter urgently? My British husband has kicked his American wife and 2 teenage sons out onto the street. No help for this American still under a spousal visa. Social Security will house my 2 sons(foster care) But not me.
I work 2 jobs.......but still do not make enough quid to rent privately, and have no rights to public funds or benefits.
Does anyone one have an extra room to rent?
Any help at all is welcome.......feeling very alone and desperate here in London......my number is 0791 320 6371.........or email me; gailwinds76513@yahoo.com.
Thanks for caring........................................... ..........Gail

What about the American Embassay?  I know it's Sunday so it's probably closed, but if you cand find shelter tonight, and then go tomorrow to see if they can give any help.......

How awful, I'm sorry. Afraid I'm in the Southwest and don't know many resources in the London area, perhaps someone else can help. Hang in there and good luck. Please keep us posted.

Gail,so sorry to hear about your situation. Have you checked with the churches and womens shelters to see what information or help they can offer? Check with your local council and see if they do anything or offer you some help. Wish I lived in London I would offer you a place to stay.
Please keep us updated on your situation.

Would a link in the "Homesick and Hard Times" section of this forum be appropriate for this thread?  It sounds like pretty hard times to me.

Gailwinds, I'm so sorry you're in this situation and hope it gets better for you soon.

I'm so sorry for what happened to you.  I wish I could help, but I live up north!  Please do let us know when you find somewhere to stay.  A shelter is probably your best bet for the night.  I would definitely contact the embassy tomorrow!  Also, if there are lawyers who offer discounted first sessions, I may see if there is anything you can do to get some installments from your husband so you can afford to pay rent.  That's probably a longshot, and I'm sure someone on here knows the law better than me who can tell you if that's possible or not.  Just an idea.

Gail,
I've talked to someone who works in a solicitor's firm in your direction, if you'd like her office contact details, please PM me. I think it would be a good idea for you to speak to someone in the legal profession.

Has anyone heard anything from her? I see she posted about noon today and I am really worried she might be walking the streets of London!  If anyone hears anything please do update the rest of us.

She did leave a phone # and email. Did you try to contact her, Amy? It's really worrying not knowing if she's OK.

I did text her last night and she said she had a place to stay.  She also said she had an appointment at the embassy today.  Other than that, I don't know.  At least she wasn't wondering cold and alone with her kids on the streets of London
