BARRY GIBB IS THERE?!?!?

Must watch.

He's looking pretty good, too.  I love that he's let his hair go grey.  And he's performing on the results show!!!  SQUEEE!

Was something wrong with Barry Gibb's face or upper lip? Is it Botox? It was the strangest thing, it was like his face wasn't moving, and he was sort of pushing his words against his immobile upper lip - or is he always like that?

I think the BeegGees is not the best choice of music for solo singing contests - it's such specialized music. So it wasn't a surprise that they all did the way they did this week - it wasn't exactly material they could really work with.

Blake does good forgettable pop music. He's like a Haircut 100/Howard Jones/Thompson Twins sort of pop music for this generation, that sort of weird bland voice over a catchy melody. Even with the beatboxing he really reminds me of 80s pop.

Jordan just may win this over Melinda. She did good with Woman in Love but oh, if she had just sung it a little more angry/agressively, rather than whining, how much more amazing it would have been!

[spoiler = highlight to read]I also thought Lakisha's Staying Alive was good, but it was the song of death - you always know whoever has picked the song that is about surviving and carrying on despite setbacks ("Smile, when the tears are falling", or "Going down in a Blaze of Glory" anyone?), that is not a good omen.

I still heart Lakisha though, can't wait to see what she does next.

I was thinking the same thing!! And he kept pronouncing the letter "s" like "sh" - sort of like Sean Connery? Or maybe like his dentures were a bit loose? Did he always do that? I'm not sure I've ever heard him speak before. I still love the BeeGees, but ... that was weird.

Again, I agree completely. It's always hard when the music is group stuff. Translating it into solo performances can be tough. Not to mention the fact that it was a male group, and 3 of the 4 finalists were women. Also the falsetto thing? Most people can't (shouldn't) do that, but I think that's what the audience expects when they hear the opening bars of a BeeGees song. Yep, it was a difficult week for them.

And I'm loving Lance Bass commenting with Cat today.

More love for Lance here! He was awesome!!

Melinda is still my favorite. She's got a little something more than Jordin IMO. Blake is a bit boring - what did someone say? He fancies himself the US Jamiroquoi? Not bloody likely! I agree with Stella that's he's a blandish voice and will only be successful if he gets good songs written for him (or writes himself). Not sure I'd compare him to those 80s groups but I have a soft spot for those guys! ;)
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I, too, thought Barry Gibb was having problems with his speech.  I even did a quick Google/Wiki search to see if he'd been in an accident or something.  I couldn't find anything.

I actually fast forwarded through every single performance.  B-O-R-I-N-G.  Even my lovely Blake completely disappointed me.  I will admit that I didn't listen to a second of "Woman in Love" because I absolutely abhor the song (I have a serious dislike of anything Streisand).  I'm glad that she did better with it than her first.

As far as the winner, it's hard to say.  Melinda definitely has the better skills, but I agree with what the judges said this week - she really needs to step it up a bit.  Jordin can step it up, but her age can actually work against her in some cases.  Blake is lovely, but it would take a miracle for him to win.

I haven't watched it (but I'll comment now anyway ;) )... to my recollection, I've always thought Barry talked slightly funny, perhaps due to his large, capped teeth... which he's had forever.  Or could just be a natural affectation.

I love him regardless.

I definitely agree that the theme was rough. I actually think it was the most difficult theme that the contestants have had so far. I hope it is a better theme this week.

God what a yawn. LOVE the Bee Gees, but that just didn't translate. I'm happy about the result though. I sortta think Jordin will end up winning. Melinda just does the same thing over and over. She does it really, really well mind you, but it's starting to get sort of samey.

I completely agree about poor Barry and his speech impediment. First we thought it was capped teeth that were too big (as so many are!) then we thought Botox to the upper lip gone wrong. But in the end we thought it just sounded like mis-fitting dentures. It was REALLY distracting and after a couple of glasses of wine had me in stitches (I know, I know, I'm really not that nice  ;) ). We kept hoping that he'd shing shomething from Shaturday Night Fever.....

Well, honestly, I initially thought he just had an odd accent.

Careful now.  I will not tolerate further mocking of the Head Brother Gibb.

Speech impediment aside, I think the man is looking pretty darn good for 61.  Why can't more celebrities find decent plastic surgeons?
