Remember I drove myself home after having my baby!

Oh!  Forgot about that.  The NHS is very casual, isn't it?  "Well, it's been fun.  Bye!" *shoves you out the door*

KF, I think you mean sledge.  *cringe*  (I hate that word.)  I share your #5!  And parcel!!!!!!!!!!  Wooo!

Nope sled.  Confirmed with new American at work yesterday (who's been here 30 years) that it's a sled.  She said she will never call it a sledge.  And she's not "American American".  Most people don't realise she's American.

awww KF, I appreciate your number 5 slot goes to my frustrations hah

JF - what'd you make for dins then??

Albatross - congrats on the new job! :)

My Friday 5 is:

1. Still not heard a peep about my ILR application. I know I shouldn't be worried but a tiny part of me is getting ready to pack my bags and be chucked out and the other part of it just feels like I just don't want to waste any more energy caring because it's causing my stress at work to be worse.

2. I got a snow day and get to WFH today (bad news is we planned to go get pizza for lunch at the office so we've cancelled that, good news is that I actually eat breakfast!)

3. Friends want to get together tonight but we usually have everybody around ours and we don't have the space at the moment with the kitchen being done. I think I'd almost rather stay in anyways so it's a good excuse to pass.

4. Pizza friday for me anyways! (the work cancellation just means I won't be double pizza-ing hahaha)

5. I honestly don't have a 5....I stretched to get past 2 this week to be honest...

Hope everybody else has a good friday :)

Your #5...!  I did notice pizza kept coming up and that you might be reaching a bit. Sometimes I'm like, "nothing ever happens!  What five things can I make up this time?"

So, yeah... my dinner was a hack job.  I browned some chicken thigh fillets dredged in seasoned flour, then set them aside while I cooked some finely diced mushrooms in the chicken pan with butter.  Stirred in some chicken stock, added some herbs (tarragon, rosemary, and thyme), returned the chicken to the pan and put a lid on it to braise... for an hour because we got distracted.  Then I made some mashed potatoes and some sprouts, and we ate falling-apart mushroom chicken.  Meat-and-two-veg, if mashed potatoes count as a veg.

hahahah I didn't make it up (we have pizza for dinner every friday!) but the most exciting part of my week/weekend this time are literally just the pizza.

Ooh, that's great news, Albatross!  I hope you enjoy the respite of the new team 'til you're able to move on to better!  Have fun tonight!  Celebrate for your own good news!

My Five
1.  Other than the novelty, I didn't care about the promised snow either way until at about half-two yesterday when my husband said it needed to hurry up and get here so he could leave work.  Then I wanted nothing more than a blizzard to get this weekend started.  But, alas, it was all lies here.  Down in Cornwall/Devon way, they're under blankets of it.  Here?  Barely a dusting.

2.  Still, my husband had an early start and early finish today, so at 5:15 we kick off yet another 3-day weekend of joy.  It's not a bonus 4-day weekend, but I'll take this.  Yay!

3.  My FIL is headed to London on Monday for a very minor op.  Train in, op on arrival, hotel overnight, train home on Tuesday.  I guess things are not the same here... hospitals will discharge you to leave you to your own devices.  In the US, I had a septoplasty in 2006, which was meant to be outpatient.  I couldn't get discharged until a relative our other responsible adult agreed to come collect me.  Granted, I did end up in ICU post-op because of lung complications, but, still, I'm now on a mission to find out if my US experience was unusual, or if my FIL's UK experience is unusual.

4.  Yesterday, the morning after the UK's coldest night of the year, the power went out for about 30 minutes.  My heat here is all electric.  We have an electric shower.  I don't get mobile reception down here on the backside of a hill, so we port mobile calls and texts through our wifi (which went out with the electricity).  Our landline hasn't worked for dialing out since we got fibre.  So that left me no way to keep warm and no way to get help.  I realized how vulnerable I am.  My husband had the car, so I couldn't even go anywhere to wait it out.  Gonna need a backup generator, and/or a wood stove VERY soon. (It's been our plan from the beginning.  We just haven't done anything yet.)

5.  I made something new for dinner last night for the first time in ages, and it was tasty.  Food ruts are boring.  Why do we fall in them?  It's so refreshing when we get out of them.

Weeeeeeeeeekennnnnnnd!
My co-workers husband recently had a pacemaker installed and the hospital put him in a cab and he was dropped off at Waverley Station in Edinburgh to get back to Stirling on his own. I don't think your FIL's experience is a one off.

I lied!  My car is officially stuck on my cul de sac not moving forwards or backwards.  Working from home and blocking anyone else from attempting to get in or out!

Oh no! Guessing you don't have any rock salt you can put down? I'm not even attempting to go anywhere this morning, have seen enough people slide on our road.

Yikes! At least you don't have to go in though and have a valid reason why you can't!

My five:

1. Our new couch was delivered on Monday last week, and thanks to the fire retardents it'll be a while before I can use it for more than a few minutes. But I managed dinner & a TV program a few days this week before my head hurt too much. New couch is awesome, it reclines and the base is spring supported. Old couch was low to the ground so I couldn't sit properly on it, this one is perfect height. Elly is finally getting used to it too, she wouldn't go near it for the first week and a half. Very happy with it!

2. Music last weekend was lots of fun, happy with what we came up with and it'll be on bandcamp at some point in the next year.

3. Anxiety and depression are still kicking my butt. The CBT here is not helpful for people with a lot of trauma in their background. Really patronising and trying to gloss over it as you holding "false beliefs" about what you experienced. So I hope I have any job soon and can afford private therapy.

4. It snowed! (as evidenced by KFdancer getting stuck) I want to bundle up and go for a walk before it all melts.

5. Also sad KoD hasn't heard on ILR yet :(

Albatross, drive careful on the way to Invarrary! The rest of yas,  stay warm!

1) It's still in the 20Fs outside, and everything looks slick.
2) Bundling up and going out for tea anyway, soon, as I've got cabin fever bad!
3) Only a few more days until Arby's, Randy's Donuts, etc.  ;D ;D ;D ;D  Washing the clothes I'll be wearing on the plane, and otherwise taking an empty suitcase to fill up there.
4) It's cold outside.
5) I need to put more birdseed out, they've eaten it all. I hope someone else does while we are away....

You may want to bring a day or two of clothes. Even just 2 months of sitting, my clothes needed to be washed when I got them after my house sold. Enjoy the tea!

Friday!

1.) Laughing at the snow chaos. On the radio from Cornwall last night "We have about 2 inches of snow and it's total, utter chaos".    Has been snowing on and off around here, but a non-event, really.  And well the New Englander in me just rolls on the floor  ;D ;D ;D ;D

2.) The chicken's water container cracked overnight due to low temperatures. So, filled a little bucket and had to leave them with that.  Hubby off to Harbo at lunch. The wee girls were confused as hell.   ??? ???

3.) Been a week of chaos here at work.  Blurgh.   Should actually be working hard right now, instead of on here.  :-\\\\  :\\\'(

4.) Going to see a swing/jive band tomorrow night. Should be great fun.   [smiley=guitarist.gif]

5.) Need to clean my utility room this weekend as it's a total midden.  [smiley=clown.gif].
I've never gotten food on my underpants!
