Check your peanut butter

I know there are loads of peanut butter lovers on here, so thought I'd post this.  I have to check our jar in the kitchen and see if we should chuck it or not.

We get the 6lb. tub of Peter Pan from Sam's at our house, so this was big news for us!

So, supposedly our peanut butter was part of the recalled lots but I really don't think it was problematic. I've baked so many peanut butter items for my friends lately that they would've been sick as dogs if there were salmonella in Peter Pan!

Six pound tub..wow, that is huge and sounds so foreign to us over here.  The Skippy that I buy looks no larger than 12 oz?

Not sure if Peter Pan is even sold over here but thanks for the heads up. Glad you guys didn't get sick.

I saw this last night (a friend back in Georgia gave me a heads up) and checked out our Peter Pan...I've got two unopened jars with the 2111 code that I brought back with me at Christmas, as well as an almost-empty one that I brought over in September, also with the 2111 code!  Drat.  It's not as if I can run out and replace my Peter Pan here in the UK!  :P

I called my mom to let her know and she's got three jars with the code (my family really loves peanut butter!), so I'm going to send her my lids and she's going to send all six lids in for a refund.  The ConAgra plant where this all started isn't too far away from my parents, so I imagine we're far from the only ones in town that have the 2111 jars!

Doesn't anyone like the peanut butter here in the UK? I think it tastes so much better! Once I was eating the UK version for a year, then tried the US kind, it seemed way too sweet and fake.

I like SunPat, but you have to be careful to get the darker colored one...not the beige one.

a 6lb tub is a strange concept....a Sams Club concept! Like a massive tub of mayo, who could eat that much?!?

I'm in Texas and had a 2111 jar of Peter Pan.  I just tossed it.  My mom, also in Texas, bought a jar of Peter Pan earlier this week, and it also had the 2111 lot number.  The recall was announced the next day, so she took it back for a refund.

ITA!!  I absolutely LOVE Meridian Organic Crunchy Peanut Butter and I can't eat any other type now....the American brands are WAY too sweet and just taste horrible to me now!

No problem!! After seeing some of you had the possibly contaminated jars, i'm glad i did.  They put out a new release on it sometime today:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070217/us_nm/salmonella_peanutbutter_dc

"All Peter Pan peanut butter bought since May 2006 should be discarded, the U.S.
Food and Drug Administration said on Friday in a statement broadening its warning about salmonella-contaminated peanut butter."

Wow!  I wonder if they'll still be giving refunds...

Am I the only one who is a bit squicked by the whole thing, but mainly just wants them to put out some non-contaminated PB so that I can get my Peter Pan fix??  ;D

Personally I am anti-peanut butter. I have had the misfortune of eating rancid peanut butter, not once, but twice! The first time my mom told me "peanut butter doesn't go bad, just stir it!" I stirred, spread it on my bread, and took a bite... then almost hurled :(

It took me three years to be okay with trying peanut butter again. My first retry was a brand new jar of peanut butter, which was also RANCID  [smiley=puke.gif]

We will never forget.  :\\\'(

This article just proved my already known opinion that peanut butter is, in fact, evil.
