Your favourite movie scenes?
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:22:46 AM »
Hi all

Sorry if this has been done before (I did look through the old threads and couldn't find this one lately).

What are your most memorable movie scenes?  Most of my faves are specific parts of scenes creating photographic type memories that have stayed with me over the years:

1.  The Usual Suspects - when the cop's coffee cup falls to the ground in slow motion and breaks

2.  Rain Main - when the brothers descend the escalator at the casino wearing their grey suits

3.  Babe - when Farmer Hoggett closes the gate after Babe has successfully herded all the sheep at the contest

4.  Annie Hall - when the man in the movie queue is pontificating about a writer and the writer shows up and tells him he has it all wrong

5.  Titanic - too many memorable moments to count, but the "I'm king of the world" scene stands out for me

6.  ET - when the boys on their bicycles ride in the air with the moon in the background

7.  Shawshank Redemption - when Andy Dufresne escapes from prison and puts his hands in the air in triumph while it's raining

8.  Muriel's Wedding - the close up of Muriel and her friend when they turn their heads to look at the audience and then at each other, singing "Waterloo" and wearing ABBA costumes

9.  The Remains of the Day - towards the end of the film, when Emma Thompson's character looks out the window at the back of the bus with a crushed look on her face after seeing Anthony Hopkins' character again - of course, this is a memorably sad scene!

"That'll do, pig."

Love it!

1 My fav scene's is from Pretty Woman.

When Julia Roberts & her prostitute roomate are at the Posh hotel. an they are both walking down by the pool & they sit at a table in the shade. Julia Roberts says to her friend I want to know who it works out for Julia gives a few examples, her friend then says those are prime examples of crackheads. so Julia asks her friend again who it works out for an her friends says the pressure let me think, then smiles an says Cinderf*ckin rella. then they both laugh.

Cinema Paradiso - the end, when he's watching the reel.  *sniff*

Big Fish - the end, when the son realizes...

Whalerider - when she rides the whale.

Harry Potter & the Sorceror's/Philosopher's Stone - "You're a wizard, Harry"

The Court Jester - the 'Pestle with the vestle...' scene

The Wizard of Oz - when she sings Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and when she first arrives in Munchkinland.

It's A Wonderful Life - "Atta boy, Clarence!"

Casablanca - when they sing the Marseilleuse

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory - when Charlie takes a second look at the candy bar and realizes the Golden Ticket is there!

So many more...

This scene from Pulp Fiction:

Vincent: Want some bacon?
Jules: No man, I don't eat pork.
Vincent: Are you Jewish?
Jules: Nah, I ain't Jewish, I just don't dig on swine, that's all.
Vincent: Why not?
Jules: Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.
Vincent: Bacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.
Jules: Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cos I wouldn't eat the filthy motherf*cker. Pigs sleep and root in sh*t. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eatin'  nothin' that ain't got enough sense enough to disregard its own faeces.
Vincent: How about a dog? Dogs eats its own faeces.
Jules: I don't eat dog either.
Vincent: Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
Jules: I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy but they're definitely dirty. But, a dog's got personality. Personality goes a long way.
Vincent: Ah, so by that rationale, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?
Jules: Well we'd have to be talkin' about one charmin' motherf*ckin' pig. I mean he'd have to be ten times more charmin' than that Arnold on Green Acres, you know what I'm sayin'?

From A League of Their Own:

"There's no crying in baseball!"

"It just got too hard"
"It's supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great."

"That dress don't fit you, it's too tight!"
"I don't plan on wearing it long"
"I don't know why you bother getting dressed at all!"

"You see how it works is, the train moves, not the station."

"You ever hear Dad introduce us to people? 'Here's our daughter Dottie. Here's our other daughter.... Dottie's sister!'"

Oh hell, I love the whole movie!

Others....

- The Fifth Element - when Leeloo is brought back to life, breaks out of the facility and falls in Corban's taxi.

-Charade - "Do you know what's wrong with you?"
"No, what?"
"Nothing!"

- Roman Holiday - when they show up at the press conference at the end and she realizes who they are, what they originally planned to do but didn't, even though none of those words were really spoken.
- Pennsylvania girl in Manchester

Unofficially moved to England July 2005 (visa waiver)
Married in PA on August 25th, 2006
Officially moved to England September 2006 (Spousal Visa)

Four words- "I will find you!".  ;D

Other than that-

1. Masquerede from Marie Antoinette (2007) dancing to "Hong Kong Garden"
2. Amadeus, when Wolfgang plays the piano upside down and mocks Saranelli.
3.Amelie, opening scene (when she is little)
4. Opera Scene in the Fifth Element
5. The Jerry Springer Scene from Austin Powers: The spy who shagged me and The Tom Cruise scene from Austin Powers 3.
6. Yippie Ka Yay @#$&*&^%$#% from Die Hard.

Those last two were unexpected  :P

Cinema Paradiso - the end, when he's watching the reel.  *sniff*

I'll second that one, Elizabeth.  Cinema Paradiso is one of my favourite movies, too.

In A Room With a View:  the stolen kiss in the field.

In The Blues Brothers:  When they're in the car, under a bridge, ready to skedaddle--the lines about "...we've got a (full?) tank of gas, a half pack of cigarettes...It's dark.  And we're wearing sunglasses.  Hit it."

Also in the Blues Brothers:  Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries is playing, when the two nazis go flying off the unfinished road ramp, soaring into the air, then downward.  One turns to the other and says "I've always loved you."

The scene in Animal House, when Bluto's going down the stairs as Stephen Bishop is playing and singing a folk tune.  Bluto grabs the folkie's guitar and smashes it to pieces...then sheepishly says, "Sorry."

The taunting *French* soldiers scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Also in the Holy Grail, the scenes where the puny, effeminate prince tries to break into song..."I'd rather...juuuuuust....sssssing!"  "Oh no, you don't!"

* * * * * * * *

I know there are more, but can't think of them at the moment.

In A Room With a View:  the stolen kiss in the field.

One of my favorites.  Also, off the top of my head:

 1. The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - The bus driving through the middle of nowhere, silver lame streaming from the top, as Guy Pearce 'sings' an aria.

 2. The Return of the King - The utter panic in Sauron's eye as he watches his kingdom collapse in front of him.

 3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - The final scene, when Ziyi Zhang leaps off the mountain.

 4. Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Art Institute of Chicago

 5. Raising Arizona - Hi's dream sequence, when he envisions the future.

 6. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone - The wall opening to reveal Diagon Alley in all its Dickensian glory.  I still get a little rush when I see it.

 7. The Lady From Shanghai - House of Mirrors scene.  Crap film, but that scene is brilliant.

 8. Se7en - "What's in the box?!"

 9. The Hunt For Red October - Alec Baldwin, asleep on the plane with a giant teddy bear next to him.

When Helena Bonham Carter and Edward Norton are splitting up which support groups they go to so they don't have to see each other
