Verrucas
« on: May 23, 2007, 07:27:05 PM »
I've never actually heard of a verruca till I moved here but recently my son has been swimming at school and has about 5 on his feet! Really gross. He's wearing special swim socks and we got some Wartner and it's killing them but the one on the side of his foot is protruding out and looks really gross. I cant get him an appt at the GP till next week! Anyone know about these things?

I had them as a child from swimming in a public pool. Blech! Nasty things. Hopefully, treatment has improved since those days.

I doubt the GP will do anything.  Probably just tell you to cover them up when he's swimming/running around.  :(

Ugh, I got one when I was a kid (thank you, YMCA).  Glad they're clearing up.  Mine took forever.

I used something in the US that killed it quite quickly. There are tons of stuff you can get OTC, it'll probably just be trial and error.

Isn't verruca just what we call plantars warts?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Yup. Verucas and plantars warts are the same.

I tried that US stuff when I was a child, but it didn't get rid of my warts. I won't tell you what the next option was. But that's why I say I hope medications have improved since 1975!

That's why it took forever for mine to go away - I refused to have that done!

We tried a homepathic treatment on Cassie's wart. We used lemon essential oil on hers and after about a week and a half she pulled the black stem out of it and it never came back.

OMG! What what WHAT!! What do they do?
Right now we're using Wartner which freezes (although it burns like hell) it off. He had one on his hand that dropped off after about a week. The one on the side of his foot is beyond ugly!

Basically, they have roots. So they have to be pulled or dug out. At least that's what they did back then. Not sure what the latest is now...

Ugh.

Which is probably why, unless they are really painful or in a place that is obviously a problem, a GP won't do much.

I'm using the duct tape method on mine right now.   :\\\'(

I HATE THEM.  I have had one or another on my hands for the past five years or so.

She's right, Ricki. It's no fun. But I think for most people, topical treatments work - either OTC ones or stronger prescription ones. I wouldn't panic yet!

I had one, it was zapped out with electric pluse, or something.  I was really young and don't remember, but it was burnt out.  I don't think it hurt and it never came back.

I had one when I was little too. We used some sort of Dr Schols thing on it and it went away. A couple years ago though, some of my cousins (3 brothers) all had them ALL over their hands. It was gross, and there were SO many of them. I have no idea how they got them out though! I'm sure it will be fine, just be diligent!

How contagious are they? Will we all get them now?  ???
