Lumps
« on: June 01, 2007, 11:04:58 AM »
About a month or so ago, I found a small lump in my right axilla (armpit).  I assumed it was nothing and it would go away, but it hasn't.  It's hard, a bit bigger than a pea, and doesn't hurt at all.  There's no redness or swelling or anything, in fact you can't even see it at all, just feel it.  Is this something I should get checked out?  I know I probably should, but I just don't want to be making something out of nothing.  (and I hate going to the doctors lol)

I would get it checked ASAP.  Probably nothing, but there is always a chance.  I had something similar (Though bigger) and it turned out to be nothing for me. (Well, it was a blocked pore, but nothing serious)

I would get it checked out for sure.  You can't be too cautious when it comes to that sort of thing.

Get it checked out. So what what your GP thinks? Better safe than sorry.

That's what I thought it sounded like from your post, yankeeangel. Still, if I were you, I'd get myself in and have it checked out pronto. It's better to know.

Thanks guys.  My first thought was something like a blocked pore which is why I was wondering if I should even bother going in, since it's not bothering me.  GP's office is closed for the afternoon so I'll call back next week for an appointment.

It's not really about what my GP thinks, more it's just how i am.  I have no problems telling others to err on the side of caution and all that, I just don't seem to ever do it when it comes to myself.  That said, my GP is a total plonker.  He was convinced that a rash I had was scabies (had had it for over a fear ffs and he wouldn't budge on his diagnosis) and it took me having a meltdown in his office to get a referral to a dermatologist.  It ended up being eczema ::)  So unless it's something I have to be seen for that day, I wait to see the female Dr who is there part-time.

Honestly get it checked however don't stress too much as it could be a benign cyst. I've had one that sounds exactly like what you're describing since birth, no one even notices it unless I point it out. However a few years ago I got another half that size out of no where, but once again it's the same thing. Don't stress too much, check with the doctor but don't panic. It'll probably turn out to be nothing. Also if it annoys you too much you can get them removed from what I remember very easily. I've not bothered yet.

When my niece was going through this she had to go to the GP who immediately gave her a referral for the breast clinic.  She had a benign cyst which she had removed and no problems but for your own peace of mind if nothing else please get it checked out now.
I know what you mean about GP's . Mine was convinced I had kidney stones when in fact I was just pregnant!  :o

You would think any normal doctor would ask you if there was a chance that you were pregnant, before diagnosing kidney stones. I hope you have a decent GP now!

I had no idea I was. I wasn't even late yet! I was having back/side pains. I went to the hosp for an x-ray and they gave me a preg test which showed negative. Turns out in the paper a few weeks later our local hosp had a batch of defective preg tests! This  is my life!!

YankeeAngel please have it checked out! Maybe your'e just pregnant   ;D  :-*

No more advice other than what others have said.  Just wanted to say I hope it turns out to be nothing, and I hate the doctors too.  But really, it's always good to know you're okay and to just get it over with.  Hope it turns out alright!   :)

It could also be an enlarged lymph node. Have you been ill recently?
The only meaning anything has is the meaning you give to it.       ~Author Unknown

OK this is gonna sound kinda weird, however, hehe, if you can actually take it in two fingers and move it so that you're finger goes underneath it (gotta picture this) and basically it feels unconnected to anything, then it's not a lymph node. Mine underneath my ears are almost always swollen as I have allergies and they seem to react badly. However the cyst is movable in the way I describe. I can't say flip it so it's "upside down" but I can move it, and you can't do that with a lymph node.
