Yes, but, what is it?

mange-tout = eat-all.

You know, you eat the shells and all.

Eat all of what? The shells of what?

LOL You gotta laugh at how mysterious/hard to get an explanation of what mange tout is, either that or how thick I am. :P

LOL!!! Sorry!!! It's a snow pea, sugar snap pea, snap pea, etc. Whatever you want to call it.

Nope, never eaten one, cause I never knew what it was and the name is most unappealing, and for whatever reason, it seems to be a hard thing for people to explain as to what it is, and I was never the wiser (until now).

So basically, mange tout  = peas in the shell? Is it cooked any particular way, or just called that no matter what's done to them?

Well, it's not regular peas in the pod. It's sugar snap peas. Like the kind you often get in a stir fry? In an Asian restaurant? Is this sounding at all familiar? I'm not sure if you could eat the pods of regular peas, but I've never been tempted to try. I think they might be too tough.

As for cooking, you can stir fry, steam, boil, etc. Whatever strikes your fancy!  ;D

No, I meant, does the term 'mange tout' indicate that the peas are cooked in a particular way, or does it just mean sugar snap peas in the pod? I mean, I know you can cook the pods all sorts of ways, just wondering if mange tout means in a certain way or any old way.

My god, but call something a funny name and it gets all sorts of complicated!  [smiley=mad.gif]

Who knew this could be so complicated!!?   [smiley=laugh4.gif] [smiley=laugh4.gif]

No, it has nothing to do with the way they're cooked; it's just the name for those peas. If you wanted to find them in the supermarket, you'd ask for mange-touts.

Thanks very much for taking the time with a dunce like me. :)

(and what a swerve from bacon to mange tout, a combination that does not sound exactly yummy!)

I'm going to confuse everybody even more..hehe...because I always thought mange tout (chinese snow peas) and sugar snap peas were similar but 2 different things. The snow peas to me seem flatter and not as sweet as the sugar snap peas.
Here's a photo of mange tout and one of sugar snap peas. So are they really the same? I'm so confused. :P

They're definitely different - well, I can't speak for biology, or whatever, but they taste different!  I love mange tout, and can't stand sugar snap peas. :P

Hehe...I like them both. But sugar snap peas I can eat on their own whereas mange tout (or what I think is mange tout) I have to have in a stir fry or something like that.

You're right, but that was the best way I could think of to explain it to Stella Marie!  :)
