RE: the Monterrey Jack cheese, it is made in Wales and sold at Tesco. I've found it at almost every Tesco I've been to. I've got a lump in the freezer since I only eat it melted, I think freezing it will be OK.

I would LOVE to go to the Wholefoods. I'm so jealous!
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Yep I get that Monterey Jack at Tesco but they only sell it in branches that have a cheese counter, ie it's not prepacked.   Sainsburys also have it at their cheese counter.  I've also seen packets of sliced M. Jack at Morrisons a couple of times.

Woe.  I've checked two Tescos, two Morrisons and three Sainsburys - every store within a 30 miles radius of here, that is! - and haven't found it *anywhere*.  Redcar needs its Jack cheese!  :P

I would, but I'm boycotting Tesco at the moment.  ;D

I've found that our local Asda is much better at stocking local produce ... though they're not great either. But they do sell an incredible local Pembrokeshire cheddar!

I'm trying to stick to small independent shops these days.

I had a search online and found anyone who's really keen can buy it online from the cheesemaker: http://www.sccwales.co.uk/monterey.htm

Whole Foods carries BONNY DOON WINE!!!! There are VERY few things that I miss from the US and I don't tend to get precious about finding American things over here, but that made me very, very happy.  :D

i dont think that Welsh Tesco Monterey Jack tastes anything like the California M.Jack.  :\\\'(

To be honest I can't remember how the Ca. M Jack tastes so I'll take your word for it! I still like it though, it's got a nice, creamy taste.  When DH went to Mestizo he asked them what cheese they use for their tacos and they said they use Wensleydale (which happens to be my most favourite cheese ever!) because it is similar to the cheese they use in Mexico.

me either... I just figured that had something to do with the fact that I was eating a Welsh Monterey Jack recipe from a Scottish Tesco so something was bound to be lost in the translation.

Yum, Wensleydale does make a nice substitute for a crumbly Mexican cheese... not as soft though.
