What UKYs Eat
« on: June 08, 2007, 01:50:54 PM »
I posted about this in the "What the World Eats" thread (http://talk.uk-yankee.com/index.php?topic=34769.0).  I'm hoping that it just got buried towards the end and that I will find some people who are interested in doing it with me.

The What the World Eats photo essay shows 15 families from around the world sitting in front of their weekly shopping.  It got me thinking about how much the weekly shopping would vary even amongst people with relatively common cultural backgrounds.  I want to know what UK-Yankees eat!

I was thinking that anyone interested in "playing" could take a photo of their weekly grocery haul, provide the total cost (if they feel comfortable doing that), and the number of people they'll be feeding.  Meg had said she was interested, but doesn't shop on a weekly basis - I guess if you shop for less than one week at a time, just include the number of days your food will cover.  That way anyone can participate.

I'm going shopping either tonight or tomorrow morning - so my photo should be up by Sunday.  (Please don't let it be the only one  :\\\'( )

ETA Rule:
No negative comments about anyone's purchases!!!!!

Bah!  I just went grocery shopping this morning and usually go every two weeks:(  I hope you can get others to do it; I think it would be interesting!

I'll play. We're going shopping tonight and I'll try to get a pic once we get home and post it.

Oooh, I'll play! I went shopping yesterday, though, so probably won't go now until after the weekend. Like Meg, I go a couple of times a week. Maybe Tuesday?

There's only two of us in my house, but we usually do a weekly shop on Sundays.  I'll try and work something up then! :)

I'll try, though Josh might think it's all for him if I put it on the table and try and pull it all down. ::)

I would definitely participate, but my husband is doing a medical research study now where all of his food is provided, so we're not buying groceries as usual.

Sure!  I do weekly Tesco orders, and would be happy to do it!  :)  Oh, but we do Tesco orders to be delivered on Wednesday, will that be a problem if I don't get it up until about Thursday???  Sorry to be a pain.

We've got a voucher for 1000 nectar points on a £50 shop at Sainsbury's which we'll probably use on Sunday, so I'll try to do it then!  Only thing is that we tend to stock up on non-perishables like bottled water and Coke when we use those vouchers, so I may have to post two photos - one from Sunday and another with more of what we're actually eating!

If Wednesday isn't too late, I'll do it. I just did the shop last night....

Hmm... I just went shopping a few days ago, but would definitely be up for posting a photo next week.

I think that we should also establish a firm 'No Negatives' rule about people's purchases.  If someone is willing to show the world what they eat, they should be spared snarky comments.

Excellent suggestion! I totally agree.

It's really just self-defense! ;)
