Nope - not a sports fan. I think his wife will get more publicity in the States than he will.

Okay - you asked.

I think that Becks has made a HUGE mistake in his career.  He is going to regret this move.  I don't think Victoria will be as happy as she thinks she will be, either, because whatever is written about them, I do believe they are very much in love and she will realise what this move will ultimately do to David.  He is a footballer, not a "celebrity".  He was underused at Real and it's a crying shame that a Premiership team didn't try to lure him back to England.

Selfishly, I don't see him doing the LA-England commute enough to make him playing for country worth it for very long.  Maybe just to get the 100 caps and then call it a day.

The way I see it, he's taking what is in effect a way too early retirement.  :P

Americans will care because they love celebrities. If it makes good copy in People, US, etc., people will lap it up. Not that it's any different here, of course.

Hi Peedal,

David beckham did this move for 'money' - his best as a footballer is now behind him no premiership team is going to want to pay the stupid money he'd have wanted for a player in the twilight of his career, thats why he wasn't chased as such.

The USA has the money he wants, and the little smokescreen of 'promoting soccer in the USA' doesn't really wash with many - Soccer just isn't something many sports fans want to watch over there despite its growing popularity, basically it still is a tiny proportion of fans there who do.

No, beckhams move was to make plenty of dosh out of Galaxy for the next few years, he'll probably put in some semi good performances over that time, maybe some of his trade mark free kicks and that's about it - then he'll move into some sort of managerial position or some kind of TV football pundit - the dosh he makes at Galaxy will be 'trust fund' dosh for his 3 kiddies and he and that stick insect wifey of his will use the pundit or managerial money to live off for themselves!

Whilst all that is happening, posh stick insect will 'try' and appear as though she has some talent and now is just a full time mum to appeal to the mums throughout the USA ...

It's not too hard to figure out these two at all!

And I do agree with you though, in a few years it'll be all hoo haa that they'll return to the UK ...

;)

As someone still living in the US...it's only "Fair" news here.  We're more interested in the fact that Britney may lose the kids to K-Fed...Soccer isn't that big here, and even Becks can't change that...It's hard to build a fan base without television coverage and they won't get that b/c there's not commercial breaks!

I'm with you guys...kind of a bad move!  I think Posh's reality show is going to be a bust as well...

Just my two cents!

I don't think Posh will take too kindly to not being treated like royalty in the USA. I remember the tissy fit she threw when she and David went to the USA and a shop refused to close for her so she could shop there.  ::)

I can't wait to see the pix of Posh walking around in flip-flops and a sundress drinking a frappacino!

I tend to disagree.  I think that their move to the US will be a huge boost in their career(s), at least for a while.  Sports stars that become hugely popular outside of their specific sport fanbase do so from publicity.  BIG publicity.  Endorsements, TV appearances, magazine covers, etc.  As we all know, this is something at which the Beckhams excel.  Massively.  The fact that he's very easy on the eyes (just don't let him speak!) and she is a walking Glamour Don't is absolutely on their side.

Americans may not be enamored of the Beckhams now, but I guarantee you they soon will be.

The only people that I know that even know who they are is because of the news right now, or the spice girls.  The only reason that most people care is because they are good looking, British celebs!!!  I personally really like soccer, even played in high school, but it is hard to find the coverage and it is still considered an unpopular sport.  We'll see how they do, but I wouldn't mind catching a game if we are ever near a City that actually has a team the Galaxy might play!!!

I agree! I find it odd that the newsmedia is attempting to make it a big deal, but I'm not interested nor is anyone I know.
