Tempur Mattresses
« on: August 26, 2007, 08:42:54 PM »
Does anyone have a Tempur Mattress?  You know the kind they say was invented for NASA? We are looking at buying a good quality mattress and don't mind putting money into one since I suffer from headaches and lower pain quite a lot.  We tried some Tempur mattresses today and loved them. They are guaranteed for 15 years.  Just wanted to know what people thought of the pros and cons of them.

I did a mattress topper from them as a trial but returned it. I didn't find it shaped and gave enough. However (and this is a big however), I am told that the temperature in your house can have a big effect. Our house was always cold and that affects how well it will conform to your body.

My grandparents have had one for ages and love it. I would consider giving it a try again.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

We got ours a few months ago and LOVE it.  It is sooo comfortable.  It does sleep a bit warmer than other mattresses, but that is all I have to say negative about it.  I love the way you just sink into it, and I have slept so much better than on our old mattress.  It also helps I think that we got the super king size as we used to have a double and I just need a bit more space to myself to sleep well.

Buy it!

Oh, my back is sooo much better since getting the tempur.  I used to feel like an old crone getting out of bed.  My back isn't perfect now, but such an improvement.

We bought one two years ago and it is THE BEST mattress we have ever owned. I can't imagine going back to anything else.

We got ours from this place.  http://www.classicbedsteads.co.uk/index.php  I think it's in Herne Hill, great service, good prices, but don't know if they sell toppers.

Ok, so the only Tempur Mattress we looked at so far was in this very nice department store and they were asking about £1400 for a double.  I haven't really checked anywhere else yet but does that sound about right to everyone?  Both DH and I really want quality in our mattress so if we have to, we will spend that.  The department store itself is a pretty ritzy place so I thought the prices might be inflated a bit?

We got ours at Benson's for Beds at Debenhams.... had  a bunch of gift vouchers and   that helped... but I think ours was just about £800 but we have the tempur topped kind.... it's so lovely....we got anew mattress when I was first pregnant because I could not have imagined pole vaulting out of my overly soft one.

I will never go back to a regular mattress again.

Check on the site I posted.  We got the 22 cm super king for £1500.  I think you can do better than the department store.

I have really appreciated a lot of the input here.

I have done some review searching on the tempur mattress and people either absolutely love it or completely hate it.  I think the biggest issue DH and are facing is the fact that many reviews, and even Kathleen, mentioned they tend to sleep warmer if not too hot.  DH gets very, very warm at night and even sweats in the middle of winter if we use a thick duvet.  We both like sleeping cool at night, so I just wonder if this might be a problem for us?

The other thing I read somewhere was that some people have trouble turning over or getting up in the middle of the night because the mattress had conformed to their shape and doesn't make it easy for turning.  I wonder if this depends on the weight of the person?

When we tried out the mattress in the store, I absolutely loved the feel of it and could tell some of my problems might be alleviated.  We are both just a bit worried mostly about how hot it might get.  Oh, what to do? What to do?  lol   [smiley=dizzy2.gif]

Turning over and getting out of bed aren't a problem at all for us.  We heard the same stories, but haven't had that issue ourselves.  The foam conforms to you, yes, but doesn't trap you in.

Tempur offers a trial period, you have to pay the shipping cost if you return it, but it may be a good way to try it out.  Or find a hotel that has tempur mattresses and stay there for a night and see.

We did our topper direct thru Tempur and they had a 30 day (or maybe it was more, can't recall now - it was back in 2002) money back guarantee. It was a totally hassle free return, too. No questions asked. We kept the box, just in case, and they came and collected it.
