I'd probably do more mashed potatoes, green beans, and stuffing -- those are the staples and they'll probably go faster than the yams and corn cobbler.
thanks!  and leftover mash is always good to have around (shepherds pie, fish pie, etc)

I'm going out with my work mates and DH tonight for a curry who have kindly offered to pull crackers and sing all my traditional thanksgiving songs with me  [smiley=laugh4.gif] [smiley=laugh4.gif] [smiley=laugh4.gif]

No exactly about a traditional thanksgiving but at least I'll be surrounded with friends, having a laugh and drinking large quantities of wine. ;D

roasted squash
corn on the cob
salad
wild rice
mashed potatoes
sweet potatoes
stuffing
mushroom gravy
carrots and parsnips
cranberry sauce
bread/rolls

pumpkin pie
rhubarb crumble
vanilla ice cream

That sounds heavenly!! Do you have a recipe? Or is it just a case of adding grated lemon and ginger?
It's based on this recipe, but I didn't have any luck with turning it out, so now I just bake it in a casserole dish. I cut the butter down to 4 tbsp. and the sugar to 1/3 c. And this year I've given up on the two colors of potatoes--just not necessary. It's seriously scrummy!

I forgot how chaotic Thanksgiving day with my family is.  [smiley=dizzy2.gif]  [smiley=juggle.gif]  Started out the morning with my grandmother managing to badly burn her back with a heating pad. Everyone rushed back to check on her and forgot about the food that was cooking. Burned peas anyone?  [smiley=bleck.gif]

Oh well I could have sworn I had a can of Campbells condensed mushroom soup in the cupboard (for the green bean casserole) but of course I can't find it now! Luckily I have some mushrooms and cream though.

My DH has reported back from his shopping expedition that he has bought everything except salad (??) and corn on the cob.  I am suspicious but hey, okay.

With my mom's cancer and my dad throwing out his back this week, we had to do a lot of extra work this year. My dad also is very stubborn and we all had to keep shooing him away from the heavy lifting!

My family was all impressed with how much DB ate, he had two complete dinners, loads of shrimp, chips and dip, pigs in a blanket, and 6 slices of pie!!!! My aunt had her jaw on the floor and said she does not envy me having to cook for him all the time. This was his first official Thanksgiving that he remembers.  :)

No traditional Thanksgiving songs unless you count Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song!!

I'm soooooo happy that it's over lol. It was nice and we had a lovely meal with just the 3 of us then my dad and step mom came round for dessert and cider. We toasted to Brit (which she would have loved!) and all sat around talking for 2 hours. I'm TIRED!

We ate the following...

Turkey
Mashed Potatoes
Stuffing
Sweet Potatoes
Greenbean Salad
Ambrosia Salad (MY FAV)
Cranberry Sauce
Rolls

And for dessert we had Apple Crumble Pie and Pumpkin Pie with whip cream and the apple cider  ;D MmMM

I'm stuffed! [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I'm suprised no one posted pictures! I'll post a picture of our turkey! mid cooking

(I'd like to make it one of those pics u can click on to make it bigger but I don't know how! Let me know how and I'll gladly do it)

Boo, the link isn't working for me. I'm not sure if it's a problem with epicurious or with me.

I PISSED to discover that my fried onions that I bought for green bean casserole were not french-fried onions at all, but a nasty mess of GRILLED onions in olive oil in a can.  Who would eat that?!  Big mistake...I know I can get french-fried onions here, since I bought them last year.

Our green bean casserole was lacking the traditional crunch.  We were not amused. :(
