I am OBSESSED with the Pioneer Woman blog.  I am making her Whiskey Glazed Carrots as a side!  I lose hours reading through her stuff, though!

I think I might be afraid that would make it a bit too stodgy. You could give it a go though and maybe just add more milk if it gets too thick.

Any recommendations instead of cornmeal or flour then?  Because I have looked in Tesco before for cornmeal (looking for a grits substitute for a Jamie Oliver recipe) and haven't found any...

I found this recipe for the creamed corn (I'm one of those that operates with recipes)...

do you think it would be ok to substitute regular plain white flour for cornmeal?

I have made this and it is really good. Make sure you use super-fresh corn though.  FOr the cornmeal, you can just leave it out (like we do) or use polenta.

Rad, someone on UKY that's actually tried this!!!

So is it just not as thick without the cornmeal?  No issues without the cornmeal?

We don't have big issues without the cornmeal.  Depending on how fresh the corn is, it will be moist or thick anyway.  If it is too moist for your liking, then add some corn starch (literally like a teaspoon) or if too thick, add more milk.  You will already have to do some small tweeking, so the cornmeal being absent isn't a problem.  Never had a problem with the taste either, it is yummy!!

Small tip, it is better the 2nd day after the flavors have time to meld.

Yep, 100% correct ... polenta is cornmeal. It's just the Italian name for it.

Excellent! Because I was planning on making it Friday, so that would be one less thing to do on Thanksgiving Saturday. :)

Some of the people use frozen corn (which I figured you were doing) and if you do that, I'd definitely use the cornmeal (polenta).

I'm throwing in the towel for my fried onions! BOOO!!! I'll have my mom send me some and I'll have it for Christmas. Now I'm looking for a new casserole, cos I have to have a casserole on Thanksgiving! Any suggestions?

I would have totally sent you some!!!  Sorry! xxx

I'm just doing a couple of sides that I love and our usual Chicken roast.  I don't love Turkey though, so it's OK.  My mom just told me she will be doing Thanksgiving dinner for my sister and I when I get home in Dec!!!  Sis is going to Mexico with her Boyfriend (First t-day she's ever missed!) I'm so excited!   ;D

Something sweet potato?  Candied sweet potatoes - with the marshmallows, etc.

Somebody's bringing a dish called 'Grandma's Corn Casserole' to our meal.  Not sure what that entails?

Homemade mac & cheese.

Broccoli cheese

Tater tot casserole
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in...

Defo no sweet potato casserole. I'm not a fan. Maybe a broccoli casserole....
