If it's only about a 20 minute walk, I don't mind walking that at all. I was just worried about a 2 hour walk, which would make me late for my event! As it is, I will be arriving an hour and a half early because I wanted to plan for any delays or me getting lost (which I tend to do a lot  :-[ )

I wonder why I keep getting that other station... That seems very weird. When I looked up what I thought was the station code on Google Maps (OXF) it keeps giving me Kidlington Station, which is the one that's a 20 minute drive away. My tickets only show that I am arriving at "OXFORD", so I would assume this would be normal and I didn't buy strange tickets to a weird location and I am in fact going to the one you posted ksand24. I can't imagine ending up so far away then.

I think what may be causing confusion is that train stations have full names, rather than a 3 letter abbreviation. 'OXF' is an airport, while 'Oxford' is a train station.

There is a Kidlington train station, but it is located in the town of Kidlington, whereas your original directions begin outside of the town, at the airport (and if you were going there on the train, your ticket would probably say Kidlington, not Oxford).

OH! That makes total sense now! Thank you for explaining! Now I'm not worried at all. It'll be a nice walk through town :)

Okay I feel pretty stupid here. I have ridden the tube only a few times and I am still very very new at this stuff.

The Oxford Tube site looked to be the easiest way to buy a ticket because I have the option to take any train I like at anytime to and from Oxford. From what I can see on the page, it looks as if I have to find my way to one of the stations the Oxford Tube picks up at?

sorry I should have clarified!! The Oxford Tube is a coach service that goes to Oxford from London. I suggested it because they have early morning departures.

No problem! I'm sorry, I was just very lost! I really do appreciate everyone's help though!

Eek! I meant to reply to this thread earlier and see that it has gone haywire. :)

It's about a 10 minute walk from the train station to the Ashmolean, 15 if you're a slow walker. Bring a map! The streets in Oxford can be very confusing!

When you come out of the station and walk to the main road where the taxis and busses are entering and take a left. (For reference, a right will take you under the train tracks.) Follow along this road (Hythe Bridge Street) until you get to the intersection with Worcester Street. Take a left onto Worcester Street - it's a strange intersection, and is more that you're just following along the same road you've been on, even though the name changes. Walk until you get to a three-way intersection between Worcester St, Walton St, and Beaumont St. Take a right onto Beaumont St, and walk until nearly the end of the road. The Ashmolean is on the left side of the road as you approach from that direction.

Have fun!

It's no problem! I actually went today for the event and didn't get lost or anything. Thank you so much to everyone who helped me! I felt so lost looking at the train sites and now I think I feel much more confident about booking trains elsewhere as well. I had a lot of fun, too! I got to go behind the scenes and see where they conserve the artworks! Very cool!

The "Oxford Tube" is a coach that runs from the airports (and I guess Victoria coach station) to Oxford going out the M40.  I wouldn't take it myself if I had to be in Oxford at 9am from London, I imagine the traffic could be horrendous!  But maybe I'm wrong?

Paddington to Oxford train station is probably your best bet.   www.tfl.gov.uk is a good site for London Underground and other public transport.  It looks like the Hammersmith & City or Circle line will get you to Paddington.  I imagine you'd want to set off from Kings Cross before 7am as you're looking at probably more than 1 1/2 hours travel time.
And the world first spoke to me in Sensurround
