Kings Cross to Oxford by 9AM?
« on: September 20, 2007, 09:38:32 PM »
Is this at all possible? I live down the road from Kings Cross and I have an event to attend in Oxford on Tuesday morning that I want to get to. It starts at 9AM though, so I don't know how this can be achieved. I don't care how early I have to get up for it. Any tips/links/advice?

nationalrail.co.uk says it's possible.  all the direct trains seem to leave from paddington.  if you want to get to oxford station by 8:30 then the trains from paddington leave around 7amish.... early but possible.

It should be doable, but you'll be up early! Go to www.trainline.com (at least that's where I go, other people probably have other suggestions). You can take the train from Paddington to Didcot Parkway and change there for Oxford, which is about 15 minutes from Didcot. There might be a more direct way, but you'll have to check the website. Have fun! Oxford is lovely!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I knew I could count on you! I will check out all the sites you recommended. The event I am going to is called "day out at oxford" and it's hosted by the British Library. Only 30 people get chosen (and I was originally on a waiting list but got in!), and we get to tour all the conservation labs there. It will be fun!

The express trains take approximately 60 mins from Paddington to the Oxford train station. If you give me an idea of where in Oxford your event starts, I'll estimate how long it will take you to get there from the train station. :)

My group is to meet at the Ashmolean at 9:45am-ish.

Okay I feel pretty stupid here. I have ridden the tube only a few times and I am still very very new at this stuff.

The Oxford Tube site looked to be the easiest way to buy a ticket because I have the option to take any train I like at anytime to and from Oxford. From what I can see on the page, it looks as if I have to find my way to one of the stations the Oxford Tube picks up at?

I can easily get to Victoria station, so that isn't a problem. Is the Oxford Tube something that leaves from a completely different platform area?

Also, which stop would be easiest for me to get off at if I'm starting at the Ashmolean?

Sorry to be so much trouble, I did look around extensively and can't seem to figure it out that easily. It's probably because I am completely new to the whole subway/tube thing.

And I can't buy online now because the VISA payment thing isn't accepting my credit card. It keeps saying declined due to "worldcheck alert" or something. Sigh.

Are you trying to get to the city of Oxford in Oxfordshire, or to Oxford Street/Circus in London??

Oxford the city. I'm spending the day at an event being held around Oxford University. I have to be at the Ashmolean by 9:45am to start.
