The Tudors
« on: October 05, 2007, 03:54:22 PM »
http://www.sho.com/site/tudors/home.do

Starts on BBC2 tonight at 9.

Anyone planning on watching?
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

How funny I was going to start a thread about the same thing! Yes I'm planning on watching but I wish it was on Sunday night not Friday. Just seems more a Sunday kind of thing. can't wait to see Sam Neill as Wolsey.

Oh man!  Its starting before I get there!  Boo!

I saw the first episode and it is really quite good!  I have a few issues with the whole Henry doesn't look like Henry and Anne is too pretty thing, but, that is the anal historian in me.  :P

I've seen an episode of it.  It was good.  Unfortunately we have someone coming to visit from Glasgow, so we are all trooping out tonight, otherwise, I'd definitely be watching it!

You too?  Dh and I have similar issues sometimes.  Mine is mostly when they get the period costumes wrong.

Yes, that irks me too!  But, it is "the biz", so not much us historian type folk can do, eh?

I saw the first episode last night and really enjoyed it although it was quite Hollywood-ised, sort of Tudor soft porn! and Jonathan Rhys Meyers slipped into his Irish accent a couple of times.  Dar & Persephone, which costumes did you think were not authentic? I am just curious.

I'd heard that about it. Shame.  :(

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it just meant everyone was good looking, had good teeth, and took their clothes off quite a bit! About the same as the Elizabeth film, the one with Cate Blanchett.

Oh. Well, that doesn't sound too bad at all!  ;)

I did hear that there wasn't much dirt. I like seeing dirt.

I'll be honest... I haven't seen it in months but we recorded it, so as soon as I re-watch it, I'll let you know.  That was more of a general comment anyway about how if I see any period pieces, if I know they are dressed not in the style of the period they are portraying, I get fidgety.  Man, I've been really unclear in my posts lately.  I think I need a brain transplant.   :P

I'm not as knowledgeable about period clothing and stuff, but it does make me a little sad to see when people try to so a book, movie, or TV show set in a time or place and have inaccurate things. I really struggled through a book by one of my favorite authors because she had part of it set in England and I've learned enough about it to find a lot of inaccurate things, like the people all having cable TV and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

I haven't seen this show before. I've seen links to it on a TV site I go to, maybe I'll watch an episode to ee how it is.

I can't think of any particular costume at the moment.  I've only seen the first episode and that was months and months ago.  But, I remember seeing one that the doublet was cut in a fashion that came 50 years or so later.  Pedantic, aren't I?  But, then again, I sometimes know so much about this stuff given my degree that it can ruin it for me at times.  Don't let my anal rententiveness ruin it for you guys!  I still did enjoy what I have watched though.  And will watch more and soon!  ;D
