Fav airport?
« on: December 16, 2007, 02:12:32 PM »
As many of us spend time in and out of airports I'm interested to find which airport is your fav and why?

I know everyone on here will strongly disagree with me but I love Chicago O'hare. There on time performance has to be the worst but in terms of nice airports I love it! Of course I grew up around there so I'm biased.

Im one of the disagree-ers!
I've only been there once that i can recall, and it was a pure nightmare with the rudest 'customer service' staff i have ever dealt with.

My favourite airport is Schiphol / Amsterdam ... the shopping is great, as is the internet cafe, and the celebrity-spotting.

The smaller the airport the better, in my book. O'Hare is a nightmare, but Newark is probably my least favourite. Maybe because I've been stuck there one too many times. Anyway, smaller airports mean fewer people, shorter queues and you never need to arrive as many hours in advance for your flight as you do at a bigger airport. I don't need shops, restaurants, etc. at an airport, to be honest. Just give me a place to sit and I'm happy to read my book quietly.

Same here. I always fly out of Providence instead of Boston if I can.

I guess the Knoxville airport is my fav for that stuff because it's so small, the only problem is you can only do directly to another hub airport, there aren't many direct flights. I've had a few connections at Atlanta's airport because of that.  :(

It's hard for me to come up with a favorite...much easier to do the least favorites (i.e. Newark and Dublin)! Baltimore-Washington was the closest airport to me and I enjoyed flying in there. It was big enough to take international flights, but small enough to easily navigate, it was a hub for Southwest, so lots of cheap direct flights, and it was only 20 minutes from my house. Bristol wouldn't be a bad airport (small and easily manageable) if it didn't take an hour and two bus rides to get there from Bath.

I like the Copenhagen airport because of an amazing steak house they have and Munich airport for its simple, efficient design and it is really easy to get to and from by train. My least favorite is Frankfurt. It's too big with a ridiculous lay-out and stinks like stale cigarettes.

I like Haneda, but I don't get a chance to use it often.  Unlike some others, I like my airports packed with shops and restaurants.  Narita is pretty good, too.  Great souvenir shopping!   Not sure how well the fingerprinting/mug-shot-taking is going to work.. The little airport in Terrace, BC has a great restaurant, and I used to like using it.. but the last time I flew to Vancouver, we had to take off the shoes, load our big bags into the x-ray machines ourselves, show ID twice, answer stupid questions, and generally feel like we were on the wrong plane.  (Or maybe they had clocked that I was using them to fly student standby well into my 30's..)

Vancouver's International terminal is still looking great.  I'd be happier if they kept the shops open for late flights to London, and where the heck did they move the bar to?

When I was younger, I loved Dulles.  Not for the airport per se, but for the gigantor buses that came to take you off the planes.  Those were cool.

I like airports with good shops too! Sydney Airport has some cool shops. Overall though my best airport experience would be Singapore but probably only because I was in the BA business class lounge and got to stock up on all the freebies!

I HATE O'Hare!  Unfortunately it's closer than the Twin Cities, so I always have to fly in/out of there.  You have to arrive insanely early to ensure that you make it through check-in and security, only to arrive at your gate to find your flight delayed.  I have spent so much time sitting on the runway there waiting to take-off.

I guess I would say Birmingham would be my favorite because there are lots of cheap flight options.  I can arrive about 30 minutes before my flight and the train goes right to the airport.

My favorite airport experience was Kona, Hawaii.  It's an almost completely outdoor airport.  Very cool as airports go.

The airport on St. Croix is an outdoor airport. I thought that was cool, too! I didn't like that all the flights there were just the little commuter ones.

My favorite airport is any that has free wi-fi!  ;D

I hate Detroit's airport. Every time I've had a layover there it ends up getting delayed for hours. I spent about 8 hours on my 20th birthday stuck there! Then this past year my flight got delayed for four hours and they never told us why. They just kept bumping back the time.  ::)

Reminds me of Barra Airport, where the beach is the runway!

I'm probably in the minority here, but I LIKE Heathrow *runs and hides*.

My favorite airport, and I'm a bit biased here since it's my hometown, is Austin-Bergstrom International.  If not for the Schlotsky's sandwiches, then definitely the Amy's ice cream!!

I don't have a favorite airport really...but I *hate* Newark with a passion.  Just- ugh.

Actually, I think Manchester's a pretty nice airport, come to think of it.  Having the train station right there is also very handy.
