Britney's "British" Accent
« on: January 31, 2008, 01:50:40 AM »
I have heard on the celebrity shows that I watch that Britney Spears has had a British personality lately. I just heard her accent on Extra yesterday for the first time and DB and I cannot believe anyone is taking this crap seriously! Why hasn't anyone said to her that she has the worst American-trying-to-talk-British accent ever!?!?! DB said he's never really even heard anything remotely like it.

Is it just us? I find it extremely frustrating that the media is making such a big deal out of her accent and it's so obvious it's fake!

ETA: And how pathetic is this that it bothers me so much?!?!  :-[

I find it extremely frustrating that the media is giving her any attention at all, tbh. I think she's just about the most ridiculous "celebrity" on the planet (I say "celebrity" because all the media attention has squat to do with talent these days). I definitely feel your pain on this one. And don't feel pathetic for letting it bother you; I find it completely maddening myself  >:(
It was most definitely...a THING.

she's doing it for this exact reason...to get people talking and get attention. She goes in and out of it...the other day she started speaking really bad spanish to the paps and the next minute she was talking in her british accent.

What's that saying...There's no such thing as bad publicity. People are talking about her and that's all that matters...even if they are talking sh*t about her or any other star.

It doesn't bother me...I just find it sad. She's in such desperate need of attention and she knows this will get her plastered all over papers around the world. *shrugs*  ::) Whatever floats her boat I guess.

Actually, she is mentally ill...the accent (of which she has a couple she uses) is probably a symptom of it. I don't think it's a Madonna type thing. I think it's because she's seriously sick. Some 'sources' have claimed split personalities, hence the accent. I don't know about that but I do believe at this point, she isn't in a position to be judged by 'normal' standards as she is obviously unbalanced and not operating by any sort of normalcy. Her swarm of paparazzi isn't helping her, either, merely contributing to her meltdown.

I just feel like we are watching a slow death and it's awful to look at. It's like the way the paps chased Di to her death in the tunnel, only in super-slow motion. They are destroying Britney just the same, it's just taking months instead of minutes.

Also, looks like she is in the psych ward now at UCLA. Hopefully she can get the help she needs.

I have to agree with Stella. At first I did think she was just another media hungry celeb. But her recent actions are clearly those of someone deeply unwell. She may *still* be a media hungry celeb, but right now I don't think it's possible to tell what is that part of her and what is a pretty serious illness.

People.com says her family deny the suicide reports but she is being held under the 5150 again.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Or she just might have what I call the 'Lulu Syndrome' where she fakes her accent according to where she is...when she's on scottish TV she is pure dead glasgow but when she's on national TV she tones it down and talks almost with an english accent.

Maybe she just picked it up from her new pap-boyfriend? Aside from whatever other mental problems Britney may or may not have, it is entirely possible to pick up accents from those around us.

Maybe it's a subconcious way of trying to escape her life? Trying to become a different person or something?

Either way, I can't stand reading about her -- I feel so sad that she's obviously very ill and no one seems to be in a position to help her, only to exploit her. For all her notoriety and the length of time in the spotlight, it's easy to forget how really young she still is.
And if you threw a party
Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say
"Thank you for being a friend!"

This is from one of the gossip sites, so take it for what it's worth:

Multiple sources tell TMZ Britney has seen numerous doctors.

We know that she's seen a new psychiatrist who has come to her home every day this week and that she's on medication to treat her bipolar disease.

We also know doctors have indeed concluded she suffers from bipolarity.

Britney has seen doctors who have been referred by other doctors, plus doctors who have been referred by celebrities Britney knows, and doctors referred by her lawyers, family and friends.

We're told the process has been excruciating for her, partly because her disease is severe.

Sources tell slightly different stories about the efficacy of the medication.

A friend says when Britney takes her medicine she is like "a different person -- normal and sweet."

But she takes her meds for a while and then feels as if she can live without it -- so she stops taking them -- and her condition quickly deteriorates.

But a professional tells TMZ flatly, "The medication just isn't working."

That same professional tells TMZ, "She's really trying. Whether it works -- we'll have to see."

That person also says it's extremely frustrating when the media shows video of Britney out on the town acting crazy, adding, "She has a disease. Sometimes when you see her she's in the middle of an episode. It's like mocking someone with Down Syndrome."

I don't think the accent has anything to do with a mental breakdown or illness. She started using it when she started dating Adnan (English Paparazzi). The spanish accent happened when she went too her assistant Carlas house (she's mexican I believe)

My neice is takings meds for her bipolar. When she takes the meds she's very much normal but if she doesn't take them she can be suicidal.  :-\\\\

I do feel sorry for Brit. I'm pretty sure I would be a nutcase if I lost custody of my kids. I'm sure between her mental illness and her losing custody she just can't cope.
