The Closet is a really funny and racy French film.  I laughed a lot while watching it.

And another vote for both Cinema Paradiso and Like Water for Chocolate.

And another... and another for Amelie.
Cinema Paradiso is probably my favorite film of all time...
I'd also recommend 'Talk to Her' (Almodóvar), and La Chèvre, with Gérard Depardieu, a very, very funny French film from 1980.
Hollywood, CA -> London, UK 2004
London, UK -> Long Beach, CA 2007

Best 3 1/2 years of my life!

I think his name is Guillermo del Toro?  The Devil's Backbone is also very good.  I loooved Pan's Labyrinth.

I think that he's also been short listed to direct the Hobbit. Rumor has it anyway...

One of my favorite movies is Festen.  It's a Dogma 95' film.

If you're into twisted horror, the Korean film, Oldboy's interesting.

I'm not sure if an Irish film would count as "foreign" but Mickybo and Me is one of my absolute favorite movies.

The Sea Inside with the amazing Javier Bardem is wonderful!  So is Volver with Penelope Cruz, Javier's IRL girlfriend. She is fiery and fabulous in this and a change from her american subdued parts....

Tell No One is a great little French thriller that is really gripping.

Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources are wonderful, especially watched back to back. Gerard and especially Daniel Auteuil are amazing. And Emmanuelle Beart looks absolutely like a living angel in it.

Delicatessan - from the director of Amelie - is wild and weird and great.

I love Bollywood films too but I can admit they might not be to everyone's tastes.  But Shahrukh Khan is a mega superstar that you just cant take your eyes off.  One of my favourites of his would be Veer-Zaara, a romeo/juliet story with a pakistani/indian story.

Monsoon Wedding is also a wonderful film!

My Life as a Dog (Swedish), Kitchen Stories (Norwegian) and Europa Europa (German) are my faves.

All those, my parents met the actual man from Europa Europa.  He was doing a lecture tour when the film was released.  I was jealous.

LOVED Betty Blue!

I also forgot my two favorite Almodóvar films - Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.

I watch a lot of German and Russian films, but they really aren't everyone's cup of tea.

DH and I watch any kind of foreign film, but we do watch a lot of German, French and Israeli films.  We just saw Run, Lola Run a couple of weeks ago and really liked it.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone!

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not is really good. It has Audrey Tautou in it.
Love Me If You Dare is another French film that's really good.
Maria Full of Grace is a good Spanish movie.
I second the recommendation of Life is Beautiful.
