Urgent- GRRRRRR
« on: April 10, 2008, 01:25:34 PM »
I knew this was gonna happen-
I submitted my passport in person to the DVLA last Tuesday April 1st for my provisonal driving license.  NOW- I NEED IT TO TRAVEL NEXT WEEK URGENTLY

Before I call them and do the run around- DO YOU THINK I HAVE ANY LUCK IN GETTING IT BACK????????    (Sorry for the shouting, panic is setting in)
I've never gotten food on my underpants!

Did you give them a recorded post envelope to return it in or are they returning it on their own? I supplied a postage paid recorded envelope and had mine back within 2 weeks of posting it to them....

No, they just took it from me at the DVLA in Inverness to send in person and were gonna send it back on their own

Don't mind sending one on to them now if I can get it back within a few days

Phat, I think the DVLA will be able to put an eyeball on your application if you call their enquiry number.  You can either get it back or tell them to expedite.  They are profoundly well organized at the DVLA, so there's no need for stress...

Do I have any other options??????

Where are you traveling to?  If it is within the UK, you won't need the passport.  I have flown to Scotland twice in the last month and once up to Leeds and never needed my passport at all.  Just a credit or debit card to get my e-ticket.

Can I get an emergency passport?  But then what about my entry clearance, how do I get back in?

Nevermind, I can't really file a police report now can I...so thus, I can't get my visa...thus...I am SOL

Sure did! I pleaded with this lady who told me that she can't do anything for me until Monday, so I said, okay, but on Monday, how long will the search take and she said, oh well I have no idea, you have to wait until Monday.

Its not urgent for a funeral or anything, but its very urgent for me personally- I am up for a VERY prestigious award for a project I completed and if I don't go to present in person ,I don't get the award.  I just found this out today.

Do you think if I go to my local DVLA office tomorrow and plead my case that I may have better luck?

That sounds strange. What if you were in hospital?

A long story...  but yeah, I wouldn't get it then.
I have to give a presentation first- its a competition, but I stand a very good chance of winning.

A DVLA search can't take more than a few minutes.  They have the whole work flow programmed right down to the proverbial gnat's ass.

But failing all of that, would it be ok with your conference organizers if you video'd in from a conference facility in Inverness?  Techies eat that stuff up, so it's absolutely worth a shot...
