Cream in a jug
« on: May 06, 2008, 12:09:50 PM »
Has anyone ever seen cream in a little milk type jug? I take cream in my coffee and I buy those little pots of cream with the peel back cover. I have a little china creamer but I prefer to have it closed up. Certainly they must have a little jug of cream somewhere.

I get them from our milkman.  I can't recall ever seeing them in a store.

Yeah I remember my next door neighbour in our old house used to get it in little glass bottles from the milkman. Just seems like you could find it in the store doesn't it?

You would think.  I hate the ones from the store too.

I second the milkman idea - I've not seen it anywhere else. Plus then it's always fresh!!!

Well I was going to check into getting milk delivery at this address anyway. Does anyone know how I can find a milkman in my area? There must be a website, yeah?

The Costco in Reading sells cream in little plastic jugs with a screw-top lid - I think they were pint jugs, but can't remember for sure.  I've seen both normal and double cream there.

I get them from our milkman.

I want a milkman! The find a milkman website didn't work for me- it said a milkman wasn't registered in my area...  but you have a milkman so maybe your milkman wouldn't mind hopping my way?
Would you mind PMing his contact info?

I never thought to check Costco. It's 30 mins away so not very practical.
I checked with our local milkman and they want £1.27 for one litre of milk so I won't be getting their delivery.
Oh well, I guess I'll just use my creamer jug.

I suppose not really too practical, but you could get cream from costco once, then wash out the jug and reuse it each time, filling it up with cream from the container with the peel lid. I must admit that I also hate the peel lid!

Modified to add, duh, or do it with a pint container of milk...saves a trip to costco

I hate the plain peely lids.  I buy the ones that also come with the plastic top and I totally remove the peely top (Waitrose, Sainsbury's).  It's wasteful, but so is dumping pots of cream all over the fridge.

I buy the cream with the clear plastic cap that covers the pot but I hate when the cream starts to collect around the lid. GROSS!

Why not buy a small Tupperware-like container and decant your cream into that?
