Wimbledon 2008
« on: June 30, 2008, 11:14:47 PM »
Any tennis fans out in UK-Yankee land?  I was lucky enough to get two tickets via the ballot for this Friday, Court 1.

The Andy Murray match tonight was amazing.  He really gutted it out.  I don't think he has a real chance against Nadal, but who knows?  With the crowd behind Murray like they were tonight, anything is possible.

I was just thinking this morning that there should be a Wimbledon thread :).

Murray's match today was amazing - I was so sure it was going to end in disappointment after the first two sets, but he really fought back... I was on the edge of my seat  :o!

I was trying to find out if Murray had ever beaten Nadal when they'd met before, but I can only find reports of him losing to him twice (once in the same situation as today - where Murray was 2 sets up and then Nadal came through and won in 5).

Fingers crossed for Murray on Wednesday though - if he plays like he did today, maybe he'll have a chance of winning :).

I'm always completely hooked for the fortnight! Yay for Wimbledon!!!

And YAY for Marat Safin ... my imaginary boyfriend for the last 10 years. I sit there with my eyes glued to the screen watching him, drooling just a bit ... (sigh) ....

I don't know why, but I'm not a huge Murray fan. And I think Nadal will win the whole thing, anyway. Bah. I'm not much of a Nadal fan either, to be honest.

I'm with you Chary. I don't like Murray's dour attitude... and his anti English comments haven't made him many fans. I watched the match but I really don't care for the way the crowd treated Gasquet. Booing him was just tacky.  He looked like a lost lamb without a friend out there. You wonder how the game would've turned out if there'd been no crowd.

Safin is yummy though. I'd love to see him in the final.  But I think it's an inevitable Nadal v Federer, which should be close. Both are a bit dull to me though.

I can't believe all the women that are gone and we're looking at Venus v Serena again!  :o

I am more of a fan of the women's game, to be honest.  I do get caught up in the drama and excitement of the never-ending quest for a UK player to do well at SW19.   I am afraid that Andy will go down in 3 sets to Rafa though.  Nadal is just playing so well, and I don't think Murray is at the same level, unfortunately.

I can see why you like Safin though...a very handsome man!

I used to be more of a fan of women's tennis, but I feel really out of the loop now. I look at the names of the top women, and I don't even recognise some of them! When I lived in the US, we used to go the Pilot Pen women's tournament in New Haven, CT every year and I saw some fabulous matches!

I think the Ladies is far more interesting with longer rallies than the men. Less power hitting and more strategic.

Can I just say that if I have to watch Rafael Nadal pull his wedgie out every time he serves I'm gonna scream!!

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

I was screaming "quit picking your butt!"  The seven year old found this hysterically amusing.... ::)  Why can't he go commando?

That reminds me of something my Mom would say if she saw that:

The way he is picking his seat makes me think he must be going to the movies.   ;)

WHAT a brilliant match they played today!

Incredible.

Was so happy for Nadal - he so wanted to win, he never gave up, even when he duffed things up.

It was cool to see someone so emotional about winning a match.

It was great :). I got up at 7am here in the states to watch it... at 2pm, it was still going, lol.

I'm so pleased for Nadal to finally win it - Federer was getting on my nerves with all those wins  :P. I was disappointed to see Nadal beat Murray on Wednesday, but if he hadn't, then we'd surely have had another win for Federer today, since I'm sure Nadal pretty much was the only one who could have beaten him in the Final.

Never really watched a tennis match before...I'm a fan now I have to say. The match between Nadal and Federer was crazy intense! I was like OOOOOOOOOOOH every 2 seconds lol.

:D I did want Federer to win but he's won before so it's okie plus Nadal is a cuuuuuuuutie haha well they both are.
