I don't have my dress yet.

The reception venue keeps adding extra charges.

Half the people we have invited haven't replied.

I am bored to the hilt with weddings.

We gave people until 24 April to get their replies in - but I'm sure there will be some I'll have to chase down. I put postage on the reply cards, so I'm hoping that encourages everyone to send them back! The big problem I've been facing is that people are RSVPing and adding all their children's names! We don't have room for that many! And I don't really want children there! So I'm having to make very carefully worded phone calls to let people know that they can't just add names to those who have been invited. Yeeesh.  >:( :-X

I didn't particularly want kids at mine, either. But, not being a parent, I did not realize there was such a thing as "teenagers you dare not leave home alone even for a day." Several of them, apparently.

If it's any consolation -- and I know it's not -- mine came off like clockwork. It was a small affair, but I wanted it to be just so. And it was. First time in my whole life I've done a grownup thing in a grownup way and not somehow bollixed it up.

First and last time, I'm guessing.

Well, maybe they ought not to be left at home alone, but if they're not invited guests they ought not to come to a social function either. At least, that's my take on it. The thing I don't think a lot of people quite "get" is how expensive weddings are and how much extra ££ it costs per person, even that person is a small one - food, chairs, tables, etc. And if you have limited space and a maximum capacity ... well, then that's it!

I just hope mine goes as well as yours did!  :)

Well, ours is still on for this summer either in June or August --- I'm in the process of applying for my fiancee visa so hopefully that will go off without a hitch.

Ours will be exceptionally small --- with a few close friends of my fiance's and his adult son who'll probably walk me down the aisle.  No member of my family is coming (long sad story). Once I get there we're going to check out some really old churches to hopefully get married in.

I have my dress (bought online at of all places JCrew!), don't have shoes, necklace, or the right underwear to go underneath my dress etc.,  I'm sure I'll find just what I need online or the stores.

Our wedding party was a dozen, total. And none of my family could make it, either.

It's no longer the case that you can only marry in your local church, but the vicar has a LOT of latitude about whether and where to marry you. We badly wanted to get married in our local parish church -- we aren't the least bit religious, but we bought very old house near a very old church and figured most of the people who lived in our house would have been married there. We had to jump through hoops because my fiance was divorced. We went through extra counseling sessions and everything. I like our vicar a lot, but it was pretty cringe-worthy.

Still, in the end, I am SO glad we went this route. I hate ceremonies and I badly wanted to slink off to a registry office like a thief in the night. I'm glad he talked me out of it.

Things will go wrong, but you won't care. It was incredibly windy on our wedding day. The sides of the tent were billowing, word got back to me that one of the flower arrangements fell over, and the heaters, that we paid extra for, didn't work. But - it poured rain the day before and I was just happy for the sunshine, the caterers picked up the flowers and I wouldn't have known anything went wrong except that people told me, and we were reimbursed for the heaters. I didn't care. I was married, the ceremony was beautiful, the food was delicious, and everyone had a great time!

J Crew does some gorgeous bridesmaids' dresses! A friend of mine in the US was considering those a couple of years ago, but wound up going with some other ones instead that weren't nearly as nice. I was a very disappointed bridesmaid.

Things will go wrong, but you won't care.

That's what I'm hoping! My matron of honour (see bridesmaid dress anecdote above) tells me that she was on too much of an adrenalin-high all day to even notice half the things that went wrong at her wedding. She actually said she wishes she remembered more of the day!  :P

I imagine it really is! I'm finding it hard enough planning a wedding in Pembrokeshire from Cornwall!  :P

I think that's a sign things are going to be allright.  It's when you think everything is perfect that it always goes pear shaped!

JEP, can I be cheeky and recommend my friend who is a wedding (among other things) photographer, and would do a fantastic job for you, possibly depending on where your wedding will take place?  He's based in Wisconsin, but travels a lot for his work.  Here's a link to his wedding portfolio, if you're interested.
