I will just refer you back to superl99's posts, which are clear and to the point.  I'm not sure why you're adamantly convinced that your children are sub-par citizens, but that's your choice.

a, because they have nothing other than a current UK passport derived from descent through me. they did not earn it, they do have any proof that they are UK citizens

b, if they do not renew it or if they lose it, or are unable to prove they have any right to enter the UK free & easy .. such as their own foreign birth certificates + mine, all of course without applying for a passport again - then they are well & truly screwed over

Its only a passport for them that allows them to enter the UK  as what it seems are quasi citizens

They have no citizenship certificate & the border agency will tell you 100% that a passport is not on its own a true solid proof of citizenship

Maybe its me .... I am not convinced

My daughter recently asked me "Dad am I English" (she could have said Scottish, Welsh, even Irish). I said "no you are not, you are the holder only of a British passport that allows you free will to enter & exit the UK as long as it is current or you get registered as a UK citizen

You're right, I shall stop
You have to beat the planet at its own game

*headwall* What exactly do you think British citizens born in the UK do to get into the country if they've gone on holiday? A birth certificate is not sufficient for them either! They need a passport, because THOSE ARE THE RULES OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL. If they lose their passports or they expire, they can contact the British embassy with the information, and they will get new passports. Once they are in the UK, they can get jobs by showing those passports, but also by showing their birth certificates and yours to prove they are citizens. And guess what- if they lose the birth certificates, those aren't the only copies in the world! They can contact the embassy again and find out how to obtain another copy of your birth certificate, and contact the appropriate authorities in the country of their birth to get their own. This really isn't hard. British citizens born in the UK don't get a citizenship certificate either. Just having a British birth certificate isn't even a guarantee of citizenship, as some foreigners will be born here who don't have a right to British citizenship. You have given yourself a headache and a persecution complex for no reason other than that you don't understand the rules and can't apparently be bothered to actually figure them out despite having them explained to you repeatedly. *headwall*

You also might want to correct your statement to your daughter, to save her time and worry.  I can't speak to the other nationalities, but if you are a British citizen otherwise than by descent, she is English, and also a full British citizen (by descent).

Coming late to this thread, but really, how many people DO 'earn' their citizenship?  I'm not a Yank because I did anything personally to earn it, but because my relatives a few generations back got the hell out of central Europe before 1938 (and damn grateful I am too).

no offense taken from super 199 Britwife, I did not find the comments/remarks rude whatsoever - amusing at best & good feedback

Still say the BCI changes will lead to my wife getting a passport without doing a UKM - yet to been seen & if it happens, otherwise its the $800 treat along with the a reeses pieces.  I shall post here again about it

Super199 the comment about travel without a passport - it can be done and is done in & out of the states to Canada & Mexico ;)

All a real true blue American citizen needs is their drivers license & social security card - passport is generally not required. US border control is so flexible to its own

On the kids (backing up & related) & slightly off topic, have you looked at the 1986 rule for US citizenship - born in the US not born there etc & you think the UK have it screwed up :P

That is not true any longer.  US citizens need a passport or a travel related document to enter the US from Canada and Mexico.

Just a fyi to all, that the £550 application fee for form UKM will be removed by the Home office in November 2010.
Also, all siblings of the same mother can put all their application (paper) in one envelope, and the UKBA will process them all at same time.

and a guess the biggest leap is the ability to now apply online!

So anyone applying now, wait a fortnight as it will then be a No Fee Application Process!

Evidence / links to fee changes? Seems strange, as by all accounts, the fees for every BIA service have done nothing but increase.  ???

Actually it's set to increase so not sure where the OP got the idea that it'll be free.

According to the Ministeral Statement released earlier in September the fee for the UKM (Adult Registration as a British Citizen) will increase (I've been told next week) from £550 to £580. See page 4 of the above link.
