I just found a thread on here talking about a new requirement that they UK is getting ready to impliment...if you are a british citizen going over to another country to marry and you wish to bring your spouse back with you at some point (marriage visa) the british half has to apply to the UK government with their intent and then once they get the go ahead they can go thru with their plans...and they say that this turn around once you apply for the intent could be up to 6 months. They are doing this so people from other countries can't be forced into marriage and I understand that but it is messing everything up...They say it is going to start in late spring early summer...if this is the case I am completely screwed...I am getting married in the states to Jason in August...we won't have time for the intent thing to go thru...I am trying not to panic...but just when I thought we had gotten thru everything then I find this out....I am waiting for a reply on the thread to see if they know anymore about when it will start...well here I thought I wasn't going to have a very exciting day lol....just needed to vent

Chi I am keeping everything crossed for you that you hear today....

Carey you went out at the weekend cause you are too old lol...that is too funny....
did you at least go have a shamrock shake for me lol

Oy!  Josy, I just read that thread and had a minor heart attack and then saw your reply and am nervous for you!!!  I hope that Gary comes back with some good news to set your mind at ease.  Perhaps there is some way to have the "permission granted" by the UK government if you can prove that your plans were in place BEFORE this become law.  The whole thing is insane to me and I agree with the girl who said this is a complete breach of human rights. No one should have to have the permission of their country's government in order to get married.   I will be keeping a close eye on this one!

No shamrock shake yesterday, but I think on the way home, it will be a lovely treat :)

Happy Monday all!! And you know why it's happy??? CUZ I GOT MY FRIGGIN VISA!!!!! AAHHHHHH!  [smiley=balloon.gif] [smiley=smug2.gif] [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

So it was Friday evening and I was at the Jazz Bistro having some drinks any keeping myself artificially happy. I hadn't heard anything and figured that because it was after business hours I wouldn't until Monday. I checked my phone at 9pm and saw a missed call from the courier. She left a message just saying to call her. So I called her and she told me the consulate had called her to question our finances, but she explained it and they approved it!!!! So it should be arriving via Fed Ex today and I am in the process of getting my ticket and getting everything sorted so I can leave in about 2 and a half weeks. I'm putting in my 2 weeks notice today at work (in about 30 minutes in fact). And OMG, I can't believe it!! It's so sureal!! I have SO much planned already for the next 2 weeks. I'm so excited and so scared and so sad all at the same time. Thank you all for the good thoughts and support and listening to my vents!! HOLY CRAP!! I'm LEGAL to live in the UK!!! Who would have thought this day would ever come! I can't wait to see the actual visa.

Carey, that article was SO funny!!! And SO true! The first thing I said to DH when we met, like some stupid American bimbo, was "I could listen to you talk ALL night!". I still get reminded of how dumb that was. haha. I'm lucky he didn't write me off right then and there.

So I went to Blockbuster the other night to rent the 2008 BBC version of Sense and Sensibility, but they didn't have it! :( The girl said I could rent it online, but I don't want to sign up for Netflix or Blockbuster's version of that just to watch that. So I'll have to wait and see if I can rent it or find it on TV when I'm over there.

Congrats, Chi! Now you can breathe!

As for St. Patrick's Day, no plans for me.  :-[ It's usually a really huge deal with my family, but since I'm alone at school and under 21, there's not much for me to do in DC for it. Most places shut down and do 21 or over on the day itself, so I don't think I'd even be able to have a proper meal anywhere.

I'm usually a regular at the Dubliner in DC, and I tried to go last year for a dinner on St. Paddy's Day, and they wouldn't let me in.  This year my friends are all "busy", so I'll be doing homework tomorrow night as my boyfriend gets pissed with his mates 3,500 miles away. Argh.

I want it to be Wednesday. haha

Congrats, Chi!  I'm so excited for you!

I have choir rehearsal tomorrow, and we're doing a St. Patrick's Day party after rehearsal, but given that pretty much everyone there is at least 10 years my senior, I don't have very high hopes for excitement.  (Not that I'm one to talk, I'm practically a teetotaller...)

My goal for this week is to get to see a doctor of some kind who's not an idiot and can give me something to help me control my sleep (or lack thereof).  I slept about 30 hours over the weekend and still felt tired.  Went to bed at 11:30 last night (without actual sleep meds or my "fake" med of a sip of Bailey's), slept through both my alarms, and got to work late this morning. :(   Not cool.  (Especially since last week I was up until 5am one night, even with sleep meds/alcohol.)  And my regular doctor keeps wanting to hand me more antihistamines, even though I tell her that 1) they're not really a sleep aid (as far as their intended purpose goes) 2) they make me sleep for 12+ hours and then I'm groggy/pseudo-hungover for another 12.

Have you tried a Naturopathic doctor? Sometimes they're a little... hippy-ish... and they are more expensive since not typically covered by insurance... and treatment is natural is about correcting problems so you have to go for several repeat appointments... but I was having a similar problem and it turned out that I had really low (like almost non-existantly low) adrenals, which give you energy. I wish I could have stuck with going, because I don't think I fixed all my problems. But its something to ask about maybe?

Ugh that does not sound fun - I hope you get that sleep situation sorted.  Wish I had some advice!

Brittany - I always forget you are under 21 (those days seem so far in the past for me!).  I've stupidly never really thought about people in Ireland celebrating St. Patricks Day... is it a HUGE thing?   Mostly celebrated by heavy drinking, I would imagine?
