Blech - I had to shell out $378 to fix my brakes today.   Not fun.  How was your day, Patty?

I'm consoling myself by eating hamburger helper (with fake meat of course).  Yum.

Random:  Does anyone read Patricia Cornwell books?

Ehhh.....Carey, shulling out money on breaks and not long before you leave for England either.  Buuuutt....look at the bright side, now you can stop your car properly AND you won't put yourself at risk.  :)

Annnddd...my day was o.k.  Probably going to sleep here soon because my bed is just so comfy, and I'm exhausted.

What has Patricia Cornwell written?

Beth, you inspired me to dig out my copy of Elf, so now I'm watching it.  :)

YAY!!! Are you spreading Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear?? ;D

Carey- sorry about the car. That ALWAYS happens to me. :( Actually for about 10 years straight, i had car issues always right before Christmas. Was very strange! This is just going to make being in London THAT much better!

Jamie- hope the party is a blast! I'm sure it is. Just don't get too hungover that you're too sick to fly. ;) (It's painful! Believe me!)

Patty- any update on Ian?

I love "Elf" my sister and I quote it all the time..."I'm sorry I shoved 17 cookies into your vcr" hehe ...I actually just showed my little neices it the other day and they borrowed it to take home and watch because they liked it so much...

Carey I think you and Patty need to do something fun and relaxing this weekend after the week you both had...

Jamie have a great trip across the pond.....I hope Carey met up with you and went out...she needs it...

I am sorry I didn't write much today it was busy at work...I will join in tomorrow

Couldn't sing, Beth.....my voice is all messed up from my cold.  But I will when I feel better.

BTW, you asked about an update on Ian....no word yet on when his next brain scan or spinal tap will be.  His one Dr. said that there's a "no fly rule" for 7 days after a procedure anyway, so even if he had it done next week, wouldn't work.  Sooooo.....now we wait until March, which is alright....we've waited that long before.

And I don't know about you ladies, but all I want to do this weekend is sleep. lol  Do you ever find that by the time Friday rolls around, you're like a zombie?

Jamie, eventually ALL of us will be in England and we'll be able to get together.  Meeting you ladies here has made my "all I'm going to have is Ian" fears wash away, because atleast I know you ladies will be there (and Al :p)...(and yes, Beth, you'll get to London...I can feel it :) ).

Josy, when does winter break start for you?

Alright, I'm off like a dirty shirt, ladies....gotta head off to get ready for work....then two days off in a row...woo hoo!  See ya'll later!

Do you all know about the PM feature on UKY?
I was just thinking it might be better for you... to have this chat sort of privately within your little group, without the entire board and indeed the entire world-wide-web looking in?!  :)

I like knowing what everyone is up to it gives the thread a more personal feeling.  ;D  whoever doesn't want to read the thread can always put it on ignore so they don't have to read about what the other ladies are discussing.  ;)

[mod note]

I've been asked to have a look at this thread by a couple of people.  I think it's important to point out that Q-G was reminding you about PMs not because she didn't want to read it but just as a caution that you are posting some pretty personal stuff for everyone in the world to read.   There's no need to 'take her to task' for what was a friendly suggestion.

Now, mod-wise we would normally ask that this kind of thing be taken to PM and I did in fact suggest that to Gottagettolondon a week or two ago.

Since it's all contained in one thread and isn't derailing other threads I don't really have a problem with it.  It's up to you how much you post about your personal lives.

But keep in mind that there are no exclusive threads and anyone who wants to post in here can.  And also keep in mind that probably more than your group of friends are reading it.

Carry on.

I don't think anyone suggested it WAS an exclusive thread, Mindy. Going to PMs would make it that way, though. Anyone is free to join in. As I've stated to QG, I think we know how forums work, but thanks for the reminder that they aren't as "private" as you sometimes get sucked into believing....

And this was the suggestions I got from you:

There are two things that I can suggest-starting a new thread each week in Enduring the Distance or there is the option of doing group PMs on the forum which would give you a little more privacy if you wanted it.

Mindy

I didn't understand from that response that it was required to go to PMs. It seemed that it was just being suggested. Also, please note that not everything DOES get posted in here. I have certainly taken advantage of using the PMs for truly personal stuff. :)

And QG (or anyone lurking!)- feel free to jump into the group, too! We may require you to wear the scary Christmas jumper from Bridget Jones, though! ;)

No.  I didn't say it was required.  In fact, if you read my last post again you'll see that I said in this case it was okay since it was all contained and wasn't derailing other threads.

I merely pointed out that a mod had suggested it since people were saying that they hadn't thought of the pm feature.  I'm afraid I assumed that you had talked it over with the other members of your group after I PMed you about it.

And my reminder that it wasn't exclusive was just that- a friendly reminder that anyone can jump in with whatever comments or advice they want to add and others should not feel that they have the right to tell them off because it's 'their' thread.

Also, in future please do not post PMs that you have received from other members or mods on the general forum.  That's not good forum etiquette.

YES! Except lately it's been starting on Mondays. Of course, it doesn't help that I've been staying up till 1:30 chatting during the week. Oops!

Hope you feel better, by the way. Fingers still crossed for Ian, too. :) March will be here before you know it!

Josy- my sister and I also quote Elf to each other!! (Along with A Christmas Story!)

Hoping I can just get through this last week before school's out for the winter break. I'm so ready to have some real down time. Of course, I still need to do everything for Christmas- decorating/gifts/cards/post office!

Happy Friday folks. We're almost there!

What a bummer that people have gone so far as to ask a moderator to "take a look" at this thread (I am curious about what reasons they possibly could have given)... I never once assumed we were doing anything that would be offensive or at all off-putting to anyone else. Thats a shame.  Perhaps we should start a new thread each week as was suggested so that new folks can get involved if that is what the concern is. It is truly unfortunate that our "little group", which simply served as a small support system for those involved (and anyone else who wanted to get involved) is now being looked at as something sinister in some way.  Gives me a reason to frown again today.  So much for Elf's Christmas Cheer.
My apologies if QG felt attacked after offering her suggestion.  Mindy, please delete any portions of this thread which have broken any rules.

But... I will indeed be at Jamie's party tonight (probably a little late, Jamie, but will be there!) and I will report back and maybe post a pic or two on Facebook :)

11 days and 1 hour until my plane takes off!  [smiley=smitten.gif]

Nothing sinister at all.  Just that some people thought the reaction to GQ's suggestion was a bit harsh and that some posts were a bit private.

And as it is on the forum then it is moderated, I'm afraid.  Hence, why a mod 'had a look'.  I think we're all on the same page now so let's move along.

No sleep for me this weekend.  Visiting Tim's ill uncle in Wolverhampton, then going to Liverpool and Blackpool!  :D

As far as privacy and this thread - I don't think any of us have said anything that we wouldn't mind the "masses" looking at, other than when some of us posted how to find us on facebook, and I think we all caught that in time and people deleted their full names.

Why are we still awake at almost 1am? Oh, right. Tim came off the overnight shift this morning. We were supposed to "nap for three hours" then go about the day so we weer on track for tonight...oops.
