Another co-worker, someone who used to be on my team, passed away over the weekend of cancer.

Such a loss, such an intelligent mind, such a quirky person...

At least he was peacefully at home with his wife and dogs.   :\\\'( :\\\'(

How sad, PB - isn't it a bit strange that so many of your co-workers are passing away like that?  Is it something environmental up there?  Just wondering.  :-\\\\

Really sorry to see so many sad things on this thread.  Hugs all around.

Thanks guys.

This guy wasn't unexpected- he was in hospital the same time I was - in Feb 2009, came back to work for a while, but went off long term leave in November last year.  But its really, really sad. :\\\'( :\\\'(

There may be something going on up here... but as a whole, our population is older than the average population, lots of OAPs, and much of the population is actually transplantees that have come from elsewhere in the UK and/EU.

Also, we're also a large employer, something like 4% of the population around here, works here... so it could just be one of those things...

We've had constant access to employee assistance and they've been passing out stuff on "death of a co-worker".  Really horrible stuff.   :( :\\\'(

PB  :(

My brother got deployed to Afghanistan again. He was supposed to go somewhere else, somewhere a bit friendlier, in the spring and instead this.  It's his third tour of duty there.

SW - yeah, he's career, a captain in the army. He's also done two tours in S.Korea, though one was only for a couple of weeks. My mother keeps praying he'll quit but he's always wanted to be a soldier. There are pictures of him when he was 4 or 5 dressed in fatigues, holding his fatigue-dressed cabbage patch kid and we grew up in a hippy-dippy, liberal part of California where people would've reacted better to his dressing as a Disney Princess.

Just a quick update...My FIL has gotten worse but still dont know why...They did a head CT and it came back ok...Saturday he was more coherent and seemed alright just a disconnect with lifting moving his legs and slight confusion.
Yesterday it was like rain man took over and his right side of his body he couldnt pick up his arm or move his leg but he still had a grip.  Our original thought was it was a stroke but as the staff nurse said it usually get better not worse...Hopefully by the time we get there today the CT scan of his lower half will be done.
He has prostate cancer which also lead to 2ndary bone cancer and just got done with radiation on a tumor on his lower spine...The new thought is something is pressing on his spine maybe a new tumor which is screwing with his brain. Thank god DH is home tonight as I need him around for this. We are going to have to change bank accounts and get his stuff in our names and stuff just in case.
