My very favorite great uncle passed away today.  It's like it never rains, but it f***ing pours.  My family is absolutely gutted and I feel like the worst kid ever for not being able to be home.  I can't take anymore bad news this year.   :\\\'(

Sorry to hear this.  My great-uncle (one of the kindest, sweetest men to ever live) passed away last year shortly after I returned from the US.  I was so sad about the death itself but felt a million times worse because I couldn't be there.  I know exactly how you are feeling and it's not nice.

Thanks everyone.  I'll be home soon and then I can hug my family, in the meanwhile I'm lucky to have so many supportive and loving friends around me.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, Sarah.  Are you going back soon then?

I'm back in April for two weeks, so I'm not going back for the funeral.  I wish I could go back now, but it's just too expensive.

Yeah, that's a major problem. When my Grandma died I couldn't afford to go back for the funeral and besides had two little kids. My dad taped (audio) the whole service and sent it to me. I remember I just sat on the floor and cried listening to it  :\\\'(

Sorry for your loss Sarah. Having a death in the family is bad enough but not being able to go home is SO hard to deal with. I know as it happened to me last January.  :(

I'm sorry you can't go back for the funeral.  I'm sure they all understand & good that you can spend the time come April - not too far off.

I wasn't able to go back for my beloved grandmother's funeral back in 2005.  My in-laws paid for us to go back for my mom's funeral in 2008 - it was so very kind of them.
