Just found out that my Florida grandfather is imminently going to die, from complications from a round of chemo he had earlier this week. He's 80 and hasn't been in good health for years and we're not very close (his poor health has made it difficult to communicate with him at times) but my mom is a mess and he's the first grandparent for me to die. I know that I'm incredibly lucky to have 4 living grandparents at age 28 and I'm sad that won't be true any longer.

Very sorry for this.   :\\\'(

Hurricane Sandy. I'm lucky and didn't get flooded, but just managed to see some images of my city, NYC and Hoboken and it's absolutely devastating. So, so upsetting. We're not expecting my beach house to still be there. Hope anyone affected is safe.

My grandfather died on Tuesday and getting the body up to NJ in the wake of Sandy is proving to be a bit of a nightmare. The chosen funeral home is also under water. We're hoping for services mid week next week but who knows at this rate.

I don't have anywhere to put guests long-term but if you guys need a few hours of electricity/a hot shower/somewhere to cook/etc you're welcome to come hang out here for awhile. I got super lucky, never lost power and no flooding, just didn't have cell service for a few days.

So, got into work for 9am like norm and got to work. One of the owners comes in at 10:30 and after about 10 minute of doing whatever and calls me back to tell me I'm being made redundant. (It's legit, this company with the way it's going, is looking to fold by New Year time anyways.) I was starting to job hunt though and was hoping to get one that I could leave this job from first!

But what makes it worse is that I found out my husband was finally offered the coveted day work we had been trying for over a year now to get him on and now we have to turn it down because we won't be able to afford it not knowing what job I may have next (or how long it will take to get one!). It could be more than another year before that opportunity comes around again!  :\\\'(

I'm so frustrated with life right now, it's just one crises after another without let up this year and it's just worn me thin.

Losing a job is always a blow, Amber, even when it's not your fault and you were expecting it. Hope something turns up soon.

Thanks everyone. Applied to 11 jobs today, not a bad start I think! My work was really good at giving me a 3 week redundancy pay as well, which buys me a bit of time as well. Froze a few frivilous bills until I get another job (gym membership, etc.),

Luckily I just sold my scuba gear for a few hundred and I have my old wedding ring coming up on auction as well, so that will help!

You can't file fore unemployment on a spouse visa can you? (I don't apply for my ILR until Mid March next year.)

Trying not to worry!  :)
