HA  ;D I saw a photo of the old Simon Cowell's teeth.. WOW! Brown crumbling pebbles..

Interesting! Now they are so white they look fake.  ::)

My take on that was that he was shocked she was only 47, not that he was amused she was so old. I mean, she looked a good 15 years older than that.

Yes that was my take as well. She did look much older but there was no reason to make a face if you know what I mean. That said, its just his "MO" to do nasty things like that....still wrong in my book but my thoughts are going to change things.  ;)

I loved the comment by english.bloke about the woman judge "clapping away like a deranged seal"...lol! I thought she looked silly as well. I don't know who she is but my first thought was "wow, she thinks pretty highly of herself" just by looking at her overall demeanor.  ::)

I did some research. Her name is Amanada Holden and she is an actress. She has a lot of credits(films). After reading about her I see she has a mixed up life so I have crossed her off my list ;) She looks good for her age. Money can do wonders.

An interesting thing that I read is that Boyle is getting positive reviews because people aren't used to live singing anymore, so when they hear a singer who can actually project her voice, regardless of her range, timbre, etc., they are blown away.

I think I'm surprised with this reaction because I thought Paul Potts was a very similar situation with possibly more talent and yet relatively few people outside of the UK know who he is...and he won the freakin' competition's first year!  This has all happened before, yet nobody cared.  I think the only reason it's getting press time is because it is easier to find out what "the crowd" is going gaga over thanks to social networking sites becoming ever so popular.  As camoscata said, we're getting the TV we wanted.

I blame Britney Spears for all this.  I mean, image was important for singers before she appeared, but no one has ever been as overpackaged or as undertalented, and in the last ten years or so, she has set the standard.  Now our perspective is so skewed that when we hear someone who can actually sing we literally can't believe our ears.

I think Susan deserves her 15 minutes of fame...they let Katie Price who has no talent whatsoever have more then 15 minutes ...so I think it is only fair that someone with an actual talent get a chance to shine...lol

Katie Price is popular because she's a hard worker with the smarts to know she's on a limited time basis so best to work her ass off and make as much as she can. Lingerie, children's books, adults crap books, perfume, talk show, documentaries,...she'll do anything and she's lucky that there is a population of people out there who buy it all up. I don't really like her style but I do like the hard working side....

I kind of like it. I don't make a point of watching, but if it's on and I'm sitting there, I wouldn't turn it off.

I think the point is that Susan Boyle would never be signed to a record label. Not at her age, looking the way she does. No, that's not right, but that's the way the world works. So programmes like this give people like Susan Boyle a chance to be heard and for people to appreciate her voice. And if she gets her 15 minutes out of it, more power to her. It's nice to see someone in the spotlight who doesn't look like your typical singing star.
I agree.  I'd rather buy this lady's CD than one from the usual crowd of pop tarts.  She does a nice version of "Cry Me a River" too.

It wasn't so long ago that looks weren't that important

Aretha Franklin, Barbara Streisand, Janis Joplin - all great singers who did not conform to mainstream standards of attractiveness

I blame Britney but also the proliferation of "girl groups".

I hope I am not duplicating another post but it appears that Susan has some major competition. This guy has an amazing voice. He was so nervous and shy.

He seems like a lovely man!  :)

I think the whole Susan Boyle thing is over rated.  I'm not saying that she isn't good but I think the thing about her was that she was almost laughed off the stage before she even started singing so proved everyone wrong.  But there has now been so much media hype about her that by the time the final comes around people may be tired of hearing about her and like has been said before there are an awful lot of talented people this year.  A couple of the dance acts have been great and there are some other great singers.

OK.  I'll bite.  First of all.   She's what?  38?  What do mean good for her age?  She's not a hundred and two!  She's young. And she's gorgeous!

And second of all.  What do you mean by mixed up life?  She's been married before.  Good Lord.  So have a lot of people.  She had an affair.  So do a lot of people.  And now she's married with a child.  That's not really a mixed up life.

I wrote it but I agree with you! I didn't explain myself very well because there is a lot more that I could have written to give a complete picture of what I was trying to say.

Hey I just reread my posting. Where have you been because that is old. lol.

First off Amanda looks much younger to me than 38. Next, when I say a mixed up life maybe I was thinking of her career. I would have to look back to see what I read about her.

I still think she is gorgeous.
