Off the current topic - Is it alright to exercise six days a week and take a break the 7th?  I ache so badly right now the idea of going to the gym is really repulsive, but then I feel like I should do my 30 day shred video later in the day when I've had more time to heal.

Oh yeah. Me, too. And I have 2 kids, too. Just goes to show how different people are. And I don't just get a rumbling tummy. I'd get faint if I don't eat in some sort of timely manner. So usually have to stop what I'm doing to eat something, even if it's just a handful of raisins or something.

Yeah, I completely lose it if I go too long without eating. I get all shaky and angry. I can't imagine what it would be like to forget to eat for days, even though I am really busy at work and sometimes at home with my stepson.

If you are in pain, you should take a day off. You don't want to hurt yourself and not be able to workout at all!  :-\\\\

I know everyone's into the whole shredding thing these days, but personally I don't think it's good to exercise like that every day without letting your body have a break. Just my 2p.

Agreed.  I exercise 4 days out of 6 (2 on and then rest for a day).

Also I didn't mean that I never get hungry...there are days that I'm starving all day no matter how much I eat!  Someone earlier said that you should only eat when you are hungry and I was just addressing the fact that it could be 3-4 days before I actually feel hungry so that's not the best advice for everyone.   We don't sit down for family meals during the week (DH is at work and I eat after the kids are in bed) so it's easy for me to miss dinner.  And there are some days that I don't get home until 1pm so if I haven't eaten before I left the house, I've already missed 2 meals.  I don't miss meals now but like I said, that's because I make a conscious effort to eat several times a day...as opposed to waiting for stomach pains to tell me I'm hungry.

I was also trying to make a point that not everyone has the same food issues.  I burn several hundred calories a day exercising and sometimes I struggle to make up those calories.  Being hungry all the time because you have restricted your calories is no worse than making yourself eat when you're not hungry because you haven't reached your minimum calories.

True, but neither one is any good at all if you're not getting enough veg, fruit, protein, carbs, fat, dairy, etc. to sustain a healthy body.

We got a walk (6 1/2 miles) in today between breakfast & lunch, but man oh man - I was about ready to rip DH's head off by the end of it, I was so hungry.  Next time I'll be sure to take some nuts or lowfat cheese or fruit or something!

My husband is the same. I can see him start to look frantic when the hungry monster comes out!  ;D

Hubby and I *always* take food with us when we go out walking--even on shorter walks!  Walking plus the cold means you are burning fuel--you need to stoke that engine!

I never forget to eat, always get hungry and feel it!  The only time I delay eating is if I'm so busy at work--which is bad, bad, bad!  I'll feel the  hunger pangs and then get *beyond* that point which means I'll get cranky, shaky, and near fainting.  Lately I've been good about not letting myself get to that point.

Someone earlier said that you should only eat when you are hungry...

Who said that?

I take snacks on walks, especially if it's anything that's going to go over a few hours.  Even if I don't eat them, it's nice to have them if I feel I need something and keeps me from dashing into some place and eating something I shouldn't.

If it was me (but I don't think it was), that wasn't what I meant. I think (hope) what I said was that if you're hungry, you should eat something.

My family is famous for carrying snacks as my mom becomes a ravaging and snappy stomach-monster if her blood sugar drops.  Seriously, we used to open the door to her at the end of the day with a bowl of nuts or something just to make sure the evening went well.  She finally started working with a nutritionist to help this and ended up losing weight and toning up at the same time, as she had been letting herself get hungry and then overeating to compensate.  Plus, we were all much happier!

I'm not quite as bad, but if I'm really hungry I get very, very quiet and tired. I've been known to miss meals just because I was busy or distracted, and I've not yet managed to figure out something I can eat before exercise, which means on days when I work out in the morning I end up only being able to drink water until about 11.

I've managed to keep the weight off I lost because of the flu--so here's hoping I lose about five pounds more.  Had a riding lesson today and I was PANTING, so I clearly need to up my fitness.
