I've had Sun Chips here loads of times! The flavours are different, though - I can't remember exactly, but one of them is rosemary flavoured and the other one is sour cream and cracked black pepper or something like that. They are in the small bags, though.

Yep, Sun chips are here (under a different name), although they're pretty new- I think they only started appearing in the UK in late 2007 or early 2008.

...... so when he went back to the UK (he is English) he said he had a heck of a time finding nice, ripened one's because the ones they sold in the stores were very hard and never ripened...

To ripen avocados, shove them in a brown paper bag and stick it in a dark cupboad for a day or two. This also works for pears and mangoes. Just don't forget.  ;D

Make it quicker by putting an apple or a tomato in the bag.

I've heard of that trick.  Does it work with plastic bags too, or just paper?

Plastic.  A banana makes them ripen even faster.

I've read through several threads & have seen conflicting information. Can you or can't you readily buy white or yellow cake mix (Betty Crocker) in the UK? I'll be living in Nottingham, if that makes a difference.

You can in some specialty stores in some parts of the country.  You can't just walk into your local Tescos and buy it in the cake aisle.  So, no it's not readily available and it is expensive if you do find it.

I've found marble cake mix in several supermarkets (Yorkshire area).  It's basically yellow cake mix with a little packet of chocolate for the "marble".  I just leave that part out and end up with a yellow cake.   :)

Well, you can get the Betty Crocker devils food cake mix with chocolate frosting (icing, whatever you want to call it!) even at the smallest Co-Op in our tiny village, so at least it's readily available if that makes you feel any better (unless you hate chocolate, in which case, I'm sorry that is no consulation.)  :P Also it's easy to find Betty Crocker chocolate chip cookie mix and brownie mix here.

Thanks all! I guess I will bring a few boxes of Betty Crocker white cake just to get us through the first little bit. :) That is, if there is enough room in the suitcases! LOL

Betty Crocker cake mix is available at my local Sainsbury's in Fulham.  So don't despair, I think you'll be able to find something!

But I also found through just trying new things last year that cooking from scratch isn't so hard!  I should get back into it and make cookies for the office.  Cakes weren't bad either.

I think the coffee was the biggest deal, but I just get the Dunkin sent in from home and have a filter machine here.

I actually really to use the Jello Fat-Free pudding mix to make low fat smoothie/milkshake things, but I can't seem to find it around here.

The Jello brand is not available here. Most people sub Angel's Delight for the Jello instant pudding, but the flavour varieites are far more limited and I'm not sure if they have a low fat / fat free variety or not.

ETA (English Holly): You might find you don't eat much of the stuff you bring with you. I brought so many foods and things when I moved and some of them are still in the cupboard over a year later. You will most likely spend your time trying all the new things around you and you might find you lose your taste for some things you used to like! So don't worry too much about fitting in all those foods!

Yeah, agreed.  I think I am just starting to find new favorites.

And really, I probably shouldn't be eating all the sugar-free stuff, simply because I know down the line, I'll be horrified at what all the fake sugars/sweetners I have consumed over the years have done to my body.

Do they have Combos here?
