Provolone cheese
« on: June 17, 2009, 06:44:18 PM »
I miss this and haven't been able to find it. I even went to a specialty Italian deli. Is it called something else, or am I just out of luck?

It is the same, but I do seem to remember it being very hard to find.

Sainsbury's carried a few years back, but now they have stopped.  I have to get it from an Italian Deli in London now.

Selfridges in London sell it for one but we've not seen it in any other delis in London so you may have a job finding it.

Maybe try the food hall at Jenners in Edinburgh?

Ha!  I thought it was just me, but glad to here it's tough to find! (Well, not glad- but glad I'm not just short sighted.)

They sometimes have picante provolone at the deli in Cambridge.  If you go to an Italian deli and they don't have it, ask!

Do a search on here. I'm sure vnicepeeps used to mail order it in the UK.
When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. ~ John Lennon

Never seen it here.  Even at Ian Mellis Cheesemonger (Glasgow & Edinburgh).
However... in one of the supermarkets (sorry, cant recall which one) I saw Provolone Pizza in the ready-meal pizza section.  :o

May I ask which deli?  The Italian one on Regent with the red chairs?

Um no, the one on Mill Road. Is it Limoncello's maybe?  They don't have it in rounds though.  It seems to me that they cut it in wedges which is WRONG, but still tasty.

It does seem to vary as to when they have it.

They have really good caramel banana flapjacks and if you are down there you can get root beer at the Winfield shop.

Well Winfield is on the other side of the railway bridge, but in the general area.

I second the idea of trying an Italian deli.  I have found it there.
