Well, I'm the SO in this case, but as she loves history, I asked her at the top of the keep at Pembroke Castle.

She was trying to rush me to go to the top of the keep as she wanted to see the view, but I was dragging it out until late when all the other visitors had gone. The castle was almost deserted when we finally got up there, and after us clambering over the no entry sign, we stood at the very top. And I got down on one knee, pulled out my pocket the ring I'd picked for her, and proposed.

She put the ring on, threw her arms around me, and then remembered she was supposed to say yes!

i proposed to my wife dressed up and portraying "Slash" lead guitarist for Gun's and Roses" her absolute Idol. She actually has a slash guitar pick neckless on the night i proposed. Told her we were doing a party at a club we were playing at for someone who was in the US Navy and had just returned home from a 6 month cruise. Edited her favorite "November Rain" video where she must have watched 100 times while in the states, picked up a guitar, (i am actually a Keyboard Player, but ok on guitar) and learned the leads to the song  and well here it is.

My fiance proposed last December. It was two days after Christmas and I was spending the whole holiday with his family in Edinburgh, Scotland. He had planned a family day trip up to the highlands to Loch Morlich (close to Loch Ness). When we got there, his family went to a little cafe while my fiance told me that he was taking me on a walk on the lake. I sorta knew this was the moment until his brother and sister chimed in that they wanted to come along.I was disappointed. Without noticing his brother and sister slipped off pretending to take pictures of the scenery while he and I walked on to the beach. We had a sweet conversation about loving each other and spending our lives together. As I was looking out onto the lake, my fiance said he couldn't wait to make me his wife. When he said that, he turned me toward him and I found him down on one knee. He asked if I would give him the honor of being his wife. I screamed Yes!!

It turns out that he had planned for his brother and sister to come along just to throw me off. He planned for them to hide in the bushes and take pictures of the proposal so that my family back home could see.

I wish I could upload the pictures for you all to see. It was the best day of my whole life!!

Hmmmm

The Plan:
My US GF comes over here to London
I arrange a Village Hall meeting
GF comes along

First speaker shows a slide that says "Doo doo doo doo da doo doo doo doo da doo ..."

Unknown to GF, this is Ian, a Bass singer from my 80s accapella choir (Kitsch in Sync), who then launches into the intro of the song "It must be love", slowly member of the choir who are in the audience join in, until it's my turn.  I take the lead and in the vocal instrumental, do the one knee and ring thing.

Sadly ... her Visa was refused, so it ain't gonna happen like that :(

Hmmm unless I can find a decent Accapella choir in Michigan ... hmmm

Dude, Deetroit was where that stuff started....

Here's Deke and the Blazers:

Deke and the Blazers, Doo Wop Acapella, Never, Never, Never
I just hope that more people will ignore the fatalism of the argument that we are beyond repair. We are not beyond repair. We are never beyond repair. - AOC

RECORD IT - GET a friend of hers or something to play it...Do a video or audio recording but do the live thing...

You could play it on her DVD player and say look what I have to show you...maybe show her places or a slide show of places you will go/live and your friends "band" and WHAM blend it in..

you can do this

You know ... this post has got me thinking instead of slumping into a dejected "maybe I'll just say ... marry me" type of thing.

I wonder where the karaoke bars are in Michigan   8)

Awwww! I love big silly romantic gestures.  ;D It's too bad it didn't work out the way you had planned, but I bet you can make it happen in the US.
We stole countries with the cunning use of flags. Just sail around the world and stick a flag in. "I claim India for Britain!" They're going "You can't claim us, we live here! Five hundred million of us!" "Do you have a flag …? "What? We don't need a flag, this is our home, you bastards" "No flag, No Country, You can't have one! Those are the rules... that I just made up!...and I'm backing it up with this gun, that was lent to me from the National Rifle Association."

I was over in the UK for 3 weeks in April. We went to London the day after the royal wedding and had a picnic in St. James park. We were discussing my move over and the fiancee visa. My BF is very much an accountant and likes to have all his ducks in a row. He had mentioned earlier that perhaps we should just skip the fiancee visa and get married.

So in discussing the time line I could tell he wanted to talk specifics about wedding date etc, but didn't feel he should without actually being engaged! Such a quandary! So I asked him and he said yes!

Then he said we'd "do it properly" when I was back this August with a ring and him asking me. I told him he said yes so he was committed! But now we are able to discuss wedding plans because we are "engaged." :) Sometimes a girl just has to take matters into her own hands.
June 1989: 1st time we met.
June 2009: Reconnected... yes on FaceBook.
Jan 2010: he invited me to the UK by saying "get your ars* on a plane!"
May 2010: I arrive in UK for visit.
April 2011: ask him to marry me.
