Mrs R, I *heart* how you highlight the pubs! With that amount of walking, I'd need the pubs to motivate me for sure!  ;D

Also, that is crazy about your knee. What a trooper. I think I would make someone carry me the rest of the way if I busted my knee!

Well no bones were broken - obviously, lol!  It was just extremely swollen with lots of fluid on it, major bruising, skinned up, etc.  When I fell, we were in the middle of nowhere with no mobile reception, and we still had 5 or 6 miles left to walk for that day.  Steve had laughed at me for packing first aid kit ('Why do we need all this stuff?!') in the beginning, but quickly found out why that's a really good idea.  So after having a good cry, I tweezed the dirt & gravel out, smeared on the Neosporin & slapped on the plasters, and got up to see if I could still walk.  Since I could still stand and walk, I just kept walking hobbling...  At the end of the walk, the fluid & bruising was traveling down my leg to my ankle which then got all swelled up (because I should have stayed off my feet after I hurt myself) - so that took me to A&E where they gave me a right telling off.  :-[  Still have some minor nerve damage (no feeling) on the surface skin of that knee - an area now about the size of a 50p coin.

It sure does make a hard, hurty & sweaty (or chilly) walk better if you know there's a pint of beer/cider waiting for you there (and maybe an open fire if it's cold out), either part-way through the walk or at the end!  :)

I did a great walk along today along the hills surrounding Loch Ness. Beautiful to see the Loch so still! However, it was pretty darn wet and I got soaked!

Hehe! No, I think geeky would be putting together some sort of homemade sonar system and walking around the loch with it.  :P

I hope to! I should look into it. Where did you stay when you went?

We're hitting the trails again - want to do a long distance walk again next summer!

Today we did 4 miles around Tong & Fulneck here in West Yorkshire.  Fulneck being an old Moravian settlement from the 18th century, where John Wesley once preached.  I told DH I thought the Moravians were supposed to make good pastries, so I wanted to go knock on the doors & ask for pastry...but he kind of discouraged me from that.  :P

We just finished the Great Glen Way.  75ish miles (had a few extra thrown in there) 5 days.

I liked the West Highland Way better.  This had miles of road walking which is not what you want at the end of a 18 mile day.

Yay you!  That would have taken me 7-8 days - lol!  I hate road walking.  Are you going to post some photos?

Did you camp or...?  Did you carry all your gear?  (I don't do either of those, ha!)  :)

I wanted to camp, but almost all the campsites have closed and you can now wild camp.

I like camping, but I don't feel comfortable wild camping in a place I barely know not that far from civilization.  For all I know my campsite could be yards away from a local teen drinking hangout or something. Also, it makes my husband grumpy!  So B&Bs.

We stayed at a few really nice ones in Spean Bridge, Drumnadrochit, and Inverness if people need sugguestions.  Oh and on a boat.  It was really nice and the they have a bar on the boat next door.

I carried a lot of stuff, but we had another few days in Glasgow, before and after, so we also had a baggage service.  We could have made it with just the two of us.  Especially since I must have gotten bored with packing and didn't take enough underwear!  How I managed that I have no idea.

Yes, AFAIC, B&Bs & baggage service are the way to go!  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Woot!  bookgrl going commando on the trail!  :D  Or, you could start out being the next Naked Rambler...  :P  Lol!

We are just starting to build up our walking again, after a couple years of laziness (knee injury, death in the family, messed up toes while mountain climbing, etc).  In any case, nothing hurts (or is black & blue) at the moment, except the purple blackberry splodge on my shirt right now.  :-[  Initially, we were going to do a 6 1/2 mile today, but that has been downgraded to 5 miles after lunch later on.  (Blackberry picking not far from our house took priority!)
