Well done PB!  You're a dedicated walker to stick with it through the rain and I'm glad it payed off with pretty views.  :)

There was a house in the village called "Lamb Farm", but it should have been called "Kitty Farm" because I counted 5 cats sitting on walls, in doorways, etc.  It was the highlight of my walk!  Honestly, I do like walking, but I'd have been just as happy to stay in Muker all day taking photos of cats and old buildings or sketching, and drinking tea.  I'm just not really all that rugged to be honest.

This is me!  I'm always wanting to stop and pet cats, feed ducks, or have a cup of tea.  The rambler group we walked with last week kept up a pretty quick pace!  My husband and I were out of breath on the hills (oops I mean slopes) so we tried to pause and pretend to admire the view but then we were nearly left in the dust!

Just got home a bit ago!  We walked about 12 miles this weekend (Sat/Sun/Mon) - so not too far in the overall scheme of things.  Saturday was nice weather, so we did about 6.5 miles that day, a loop from Gunnerside to Muker (in Swaledale) and back to Gunnerside where we were staying.

Sunday was rainy/misty, so we walked around Keld and its waterfalls for a little while, before driving up to the Tan Hill Inn to while away a couple hours.  DH enjoyed a couple of pints, but I was driving.  They had the fire going & some live folk music which was cool.

We were planning to do one last Swaledale walk today...  Got to Reeth & realised I'd left my mobile (I-phone) at the B&B, so back to Gunnerside & waited for the woman to show up who was out walking her dogs.  By then it was raining quite a bit, so we spent a lot of today chasing the sun in the car - lol!  We drove from Swaledale over the tops at the Buttertubs Pass, into Wensleydale, then down through Bishopdale, and finally on to Wharfedale - where we settled on a short walk beside the Wharfe from Buckden to Hubberholme & back (a very familiar stretch of trail).

Even though we didn't walk very far on Sunday & today, I'm still knackered.  I think the Saturday walk wore me out because there were some steep climbs up hills with thick turf - just seemed to take it all out of me.  :P

Now off to unpack, start the laundry & get ready for work tomorrow.  Boo!  :(

ETA:  I so love all the Viking place names up in Swaledale:  Gunnerside, Muker, Keld, Thwaite, etc...  :)

We did an interesting ramble today- part of the Great Glen way, up to the TV towers- good views, but we got lost and ended up having to really scramble up the hill and we kept sliding down due to the mud and steepness and then got lost about a mile out of our way. and had to backtrack.  Still good fun  :)

Well done, you!  It was pouring rain here most of the day, so we stayed in.  [smiley=curtain.gif]

Also DH has a cold, and I'm trying not to catch it.

There have been lots of frosty but sunny days here this January so I've been doing lots of walking!  I love the "belted" cows (I call them Oreos) on one of my walks.  [smiley=heart.gif]

What about the rest of you?  Robinson, get rambling!!  ;D

Ooh I've forgot to post some of our rambles-
We've done lost of loch side, beach side, and hillside rambles- nothing new for us, but they've been beautiful walks.  I must get out walking more!

OMG I love this thread! I seem to have missed it's birth, but now that I've caught up I can't wait to contribute. :)

Robin and I walk pretty regularly, although with the super cold weather we've not been out since the beginning of January. Our last walk was a 4.5 mile circular from Burnham Beeches.

I just bought a new AA book and am itching to get out again. Unfortunately, the trip to Yorkshire I had planned for May has been postponed since R booked us on a mystery location holiday.  :-\\\\  I WILL get him up there if it takes the rest of my life. Silly man!

OMG I love this thread!

It's a fun little thread for us walkers, huh?  :)

So I listened to Tin, and we got out rambling today.  Well our training is beginning anyway for the long summer walk.

It had been awhile since we did a walk longer than about 4 miles, and we went for 6 1/2 today on a variation of this one:

http://www.walkingenglishman.com/leedsharrogate12.htm

Plus 1.7 more miles added on to it.  It was a bit hazy so the views weren't as great as they would have been on a clear day, but good to get out.  We did fit it in between breakfast & lunch except I was getting pretty stroppy by the end (hungry!!).  And we made good time for about the first 2/3 to 3/4 of the walk but then my hips, knees & feet started hurting a bit (being cold & arthritis & getting out for such a stretch for the first time again).

Anyway, I'm back in the boots again!  (I *still* need to get some new ones though.)

PS - We saw a couple of red kites, woodpeckers, and the deer on the estate.  :)

Hey everybody!!!  Just a quick note of explanation - Welcome to an old thread in its new home (Sports & Leisure).  I asked for this to be moved because I decided it fits this broad description:

Chat about US or UK sports here (spectator and participant), hobbies and other favorite pastimes.

A bit better than this one:

All things fitness, diet and exercise, sporting activities, etc.

UKY Ramblers is just so much more than a fitness thing - it's also photography & travel & trail planning & gear talk & pub talk (lots of pub talk!) etc etc.  It's not just for those trying to lose weight/get fit, but also for rambling enthusiasts in general - as a hobby/sport/pastime kind of thing.  Plus if your main concern is losing weight, all that pub talk on where to roll up for a pints session after a long ramble - well I don't want to be held responsible for leading anyone astray.  ;) ;D

This seems like a better fit.  Perhaps for some of us it's a bit more leisure than sport however.  ;)

Last Sunday was a great day for rambling and we did almost 6 miles on the Costwold escarpment in a couple hours.  :) Today is incredibly windy, cold, and sleeting.  Hence, I'm on the internet instead of outdoors...

Mrs Robinson, I don't know how to post my own pictures on threads, but here's a link to a photo of belted cattle off the web.

It has to be fun!  :)

It's brutal out there today!

They're really cute!  I haven't seen them before!  :)

DH has our training plan (for the summer walk) down...walks starting around 5-6 miles and gradually increasing to 12 miles by June...two of those walks a month, with what he calls 'bonus walks' for the in between weeks - of varying lengths.  It's more about distance than ascents because the Yorkshire Wolds have only very mild ascents, if any.  When the weather is better, I want to start walking some or all of the way home from work on an evening (just over 5 miles).

We want to walk this weekend, but the weather forecast for Sunday isn't very promising at this time anyway.  (We tend to do errands & household chores & stuff on Saturdays, then walk on Sundays.)

We are walking to see some Drumlins tomorrow.  :)

Looks like fun!  We should make plans to walk soon!  I'm getting far too fat and lazy, plus I'm not good with directions.   :P
