Surprise + Hotel
« on: November 20, 2009, 06:29:25 AM »
I apologize if this is not the right place to post the this topic.
I will be visiting my bf in January. I made him believe that I arrive on the 9th but I actually arrive on the 8th because I want to surprise him. He will be working that day and it works out perfectly as I'll arrive in Manchester early in the morning, which gives me time to rest until he gets out of work. Now, I want to get a hotel for the night in the center of Manchester and wanted to know if anybody could recommend a nice hotel. I've looked up online and saw this Arora Hotel which looks nice. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks :)

You sound just like me.  I surprise my now husband a week before and had all his family and friends in on it. It was brilliant.  The only downside was that he was enjoying his last days as a bachelor, so the flat was a disaster...small price to pay.  It was loads of fun and somehow we pulled it off with no one spilling the beans.

I can't give you much advice on Manchester hotels as I'm in London, but I swear by www.tripadvisor.co.uk .  Read the personal reviews, they've never steered me wrong.

Good luck with everything. How exciting!

Last time I went to London I used Priceline and named my own price and got a 4 star for like £100 for the night.  The room was HUGE!!!!

So I would recommend the Name your Own Price thing on Priceline, go for a 4 to 5 star hotel, and whatever you get will be awesome and at a great price too. win-win! :D

That is awesome!

We are staying at the Midland Hotel in the city Centre the weekend of the 19 Dec! Its a beautifully old historic building if that interests you.

Lateroooms.com is also a good spot to find last min deals.

Best of luck and have a great time!

You could look around at hotels in the Deansgate (nice city centre) area.  My parents have stayed at the Marriot Victoria and Manchester and loved it.

How's the search going? Did you pick a hotel yet? I almost put something on your FB last night about it but stopped when I remembered it was a surprise.

Hahaha, Jenn I sometimes remember not say anything on FB myself. Hope you had a great birthday :) Hopefully we can get together at some point while I am there. I might need your help with a fake phone call or text to him that day ;)

CMG1981, thanks! I will let you guys know how it goes. I set it up to make him think he is meeting a friend of mine (imaginary friend) that will be in town to deliver something I have sent for him to bring to the airport the next day "when he picks me up" and he believed it so, I just have to arrange a couple of other things with his mom or brother and it will be set :)
I'm very excited, although its a more than a month away, the thought of it keeps me happy!

I'm a surprise nut myself so I can be the anticipation is making you crazy!  It would be for me!

Are you having him meet you at the hotel?  It would be so cute to have like Christmas presents in the room (I'm assuming it's around Christmas) or even one of those fake little trees!  Sorry, I'm getting carried away.

The first time I had my family come and visit I went to the hotel they were all staying in and put little "England Survival Kits" in their rooms before they checked in- filled with tea, biscuits, scones, Walkers, etc.  Only bummer was at first they thought the hotel put them in there.... :(

Yup, my name is Jessica and I'm addicted to surprises...

Best of luck!!!

Thanks Jessica. Yes! the anticipation is driving me nuts. The waiting and keeping it a secret is the hardest part, but seeing the look on his face that day, will be worth the wait.
I will be there at the beginning of January, so no Xmas pressies :( He thinks he will be going to pick a package that I am sending with a friend of mine who will be staying in the hotel. I am not sure if I will have him go straight to the room, to the bar, or at the lobby. I have so many ideas.

That is the cuttest idea, hahaha sorry but I couldn't help to laugh when you said they thought the hotel put them in there, that is a bummer but I'm sure they appreciated the surprise and the thought you put in to it.
I'm addicted to surprises as well. I think is very important to do little things here and there when/if we can, to show the other person how much we care and love them :)

Oh my gosh it'd be totally cute to have him go to the bar or lobby, and you could be there like, non-chalantly having a drink or reading the paper or something... just totally blend in and see if he notices you.  That's my opinion.  :)

And I couldn't have said it better, it's all the little things that truly make a difference.

Have a great time!!!!!!

I like that idea too! Once he get's the surprise of seeing you then you should tell him the "package" is in the room and take him on up  ;)
