The Pursuit of Happiness...even more so since it's a true story (and the movie was "light" compared to some of the things he experienced in real life).

I was screaming WTF at that ending too because they completely destroyed the book and the entire feel of the whole thing by turning into the worst possible, most Hollywoody, cynical ending ever.

Damn I loved that novella.  The worst thing was that Darabont, the director, was then on TV being interviewed about Shawshank and how he made it because it broke the cynical mold of Hollywood.  My poor DH had to change the channel because I started ranting at the TV.

Pretty much just like I am doing now.   ;D

I need a magic brain eraser that you can stick up your nose to wipe out horrible things people do to your favorite books and movies.  There goes Alien3 and the ending of the Mist and so many others.

OMG, thankyou thankyou thankyou! I thought I was the only one that HATED THAT ENDING! I'm so with you on this  >:(

Armeggedon

PS I Love You

Pearl Harbor

I cry at PS I love you as well. Same with The Notebook and The Lover.

I know this doesn't fit, because it's not really a depressing movie...but the 2000 remake of Return To Me with David Duchovny and Minnie Driver leaves me bawling every single time I watch it. I LOVE that movie!

For just plain depressing try The Break Up or Revolutionary Road. Both of those just suck the soul right out of me. Two hours worth of seeing a couple bicker and fight and grow to hate eachother? Yeah. Fun.

And one more: I'm a sucker for Out of Africa. I cry at the end of that every single time.

I went with five people.  Three of us loved the novella, two never read it and all of us hated the ending.

I was holding out hope that they had used the original and would release it as an alternate ending on DVD, but sadly not.

Me too.  Shawshank makes me cry, from the minute he releases the bird until the end of the film.

Yeah, Steel Magnolias and Beaches.

When I was a tot my mum used to take me to all the "Lassie" movies and invariably there would be a scene where the dog gets hit by a car or shot or something and she would have to take me out to the lobby because I'd be howling so loud.  She got so she could tell one of those scenes was coming up and we'd just head out to the lobby and get Jr. Mints or something until the scary stuff was over.

Oh Jeez, I can't watch films where anything bad happens to animals.

Ever see Eight Below? Don't. Just don't. That's not entertainment, especially as it's TRUE and it's just another catalogue of the truly f-ed up things people do to the animals that trust them.

I used to get upset when my friends and I went to Westerns and the horses would get shot up in the big gunfights.  Didn't care a whit about the people getting shot though. :o
