They're meant to be great phones.  I sort of wish I had waited a couple of months for it to come out.

I was debating waiting for the next one to come out (the Evo, I think?). It's out in the US, I'm pretty sure, but doesn't have a firm release date for the UK, so I figured I may as well just get one now and be done for a while.

I heard they weren't coming out here because the 4G would be pointless in the UK.

That makes sense, too. 4G seemed to be the main "oomph" of the upgrade, and yeah, a bit useless here.

I've joined the cult!  My wife and I got his and hers HTC Wildfires yesterday, and I've been spending the day playing around happily.  I know the Wildfire is just a budget Desire, but as this is my first smart phone I don't feel like I'm missing anything yet.  :)

I just got my first smartphone! Wooohoo! It's an Android thingy - an LG P500. I am still working out how to use it because I've only used very basic mobile phones, but it looks great. We worked out the navigation tool on it (with the free car cradle we got, which rocks) and it worked pretty well! It will take some getting used to, but already, I am having a hard time putting it down!

Does anyone use these types of phones with a Mac, though?  :-\\\\ I tried to download the LG PC Suite thingy, but can't open it, so I assume I may not be able to use it. That makes me a little sad I didn't get an iPhone instead, but we couldn't really afford one of those.  :\\\'( But, it's ok, I still love this one, and I have an iPod, so I don't really need to put music on the phone or anything.

I use my HTC with a Mac. I don't think HTC has any built-in program for the Mac (or if so, I've never bothered downloading it). When I plug in the USB charger from my computer to the phone, though, on the phone you can choose what sort of connection to use. If you choose "Disk drive", then your phone shows up on your computer and you can copy files onto it.

I think whether or not the software that syncs with the phone depends on the manufacturer.  I think HTC (and other phones I've had for that matter) offered Mac capable software at their websites.  You could check there or ask in an LG support forum.  If worse comes to worst, you could try an android forum.

After 4 trouble free years with my ancient Nokia, I finally gave in and got an HTC Wildfire.  It's such a change and I am learning very slowly how do to stuff with it. I feel very old lol!  ;D

Legs, earlier you mentioned you had a security app that would lock and track your phone. What's it called?

I'm not Legs, but I've got a Wildfire and use WaveSecure for security.  It can track, lock and wipe your phone remotely, and also will back up all your contacts and some other files, too (I only did contacts, so I don't remember what else it can back up).  It's something like $12/year, but there's a demo you can try out for a bit first.

Has anyone bought an HTC Desire yet?  It's like the Nexus one, but on T-mo (and I think a couple others).

I want one really badly, and am hoping that when I get back from holiday in NJ that I can upgrade from my G1.

I got the Desire about six months ago and . . . wow.  It is a thing of beauty. The ONLY (and I really do mean only) issue I have is battery life. But pretty much any phone in this category is going to have this problem. I can easily get through a day but I have to recharge every night.

I got mine on an unlimited deal with 3. Coverage is excellent, I have Skype and more internet/texts/minutes than I ever use in one month. I have never loved a piece of electrical equipment like my Desire.
I know I'm late - where's the booze?

WaveSecure was what I was talking about, but it is no longer as free as it was.

Anyone who has a US based GMail acct (but in the UK) have any luck with getting Google voice to work here? I just bought a Wildfire the other week and was hoping to use it to call home for free.... (Also family doesnt use SKYPE, so its not an option for me)

Nope.  I haven't checked in a while, but I seem to recall you need a US phone to make this work.

I can send/receive text messages for free via GV. I'm pretty sure GV requires credit to make calls.

I've gone with an unlimited US calling plan with Skype instead (think it's $30/year)? It allows me to call any US number and talk however long I want.

I also had a US number with Skype so that family could call me directly, but had too many problems with it (Skype kept resetting my privacy settings to reject all calls), so haven't bothered to renew that.
