Snowing again all morning here in Northumberland. We already had about 6 inches or so. I love the snow, and have been loving walking around the village at night looking at Christmas lights and all the glittery snow.  [smiley=elf.gif] Plus the dogs love to play in it! But, I hate not being able to get out of the village.  :-\\\\

We don't have snow, but we have a big thick layer of frost that doesn't seem to go away, or at least hasn't for two days.

Same here, persephone. It's a very thin layer of snow but I think the frost has fortified it somehow and it's not going away.

Anyone having household problems because of the cold? Our bathroom sink pipes seems to have frozen, so we have about half a sink full of grotty water waiting to go down.

We had very little snow overnight I am guessing...
My FIL pipes in kitchen froze but that is b/c he doesnt put the heat on in there (he turns the radiator off).
Lucky we are smooshed in by other houses on each side so that keeps the heat in? No not really but it makes me feel better.

I want more snow!

Lovely snow here today in the in-laws' rural village near Norwich - great, big wet flakes have been steadily falling for a few hours but not much sticking (just a bit) because the snow is wet & positively tropical temps today  ;) above freezing even! Starting to accumulate slowly now.  As long as I don't have to worry about going to work in it or driving in it - it's lovely to watch! Have been trying to convince the family to all go walking in it, but DH has a cold & the in-laws went to their gym this morning so no one is interested - lol! Very funny because usually they would all be raring to go & I wouldn't.  :P (I'm kind of bored.)

I hope we don't arrive home to frozen pipes! We left the heat on, but the boiler was acting up Monday morn before we left. Think we got it sorted out but - argh, fingers crossed.

I want to know if anyone up there felt the Coniston earthquake last night? Yorkshire peeps? Northumberland peeps? Cumbrian peeps? I remember when we had that one in the night a year or so ago - so freaky! I had not experienced an earthquake before so didn't know what it was until someone told me we'd had one. Now I feel like we missed out on the excitement this time.

Yes - our pipes froze on Saturday and we had no hot water or working toilets for 2 days.  My Christmas angel, in the form of Richard the Plumber, came on Monday, and couldn't figure out where the pipes disappeared to into the limestone to unfreeze them. He suggested we turn our boiler and our radiators up as high as they would go and try to unfreeze them from the inside out.  Well, it worked!  And a shower never felt so good - I don't need anything else for Christmas.  And now we are walking around in shorts and tank tops, afraid to turn anything down!

Well, it warmed up a bit and some our snow cover lifted, but it's dropped cold again and now they are predicting anywhere from 6" to 11" to start tomorrow night into Friday morning.  As long as I can get the last minute stuff done, it can drop a foot and I'd love it!

Yeah, it'a positively balmy here today since it's not freezing or below! But there are some very, very nasty rumors of a massive storm hitting the east coast round about Boxing Day. Some people are saying 24-30" but it's still too early to tell. I'm starting to turn into a serious weather geek... I stalk all the FB weather sites and weather geek blogs now.

I'm the same... we had this odd warm patch with sun... it lasted about half an hour then the cloud and cold came back! Only 2-6 inches here for Saturday!

Apparently my bathroom pipes are frozen.  ::) Hopefully the boiler will work, it won't be a very nice welcome home if the boiler doesn't work when I get home next week!

Huh? I didn't even know there were earthquakes here. LOL. Certainly didn't feel anything here. Unless the earth was shaking from me laughing so hard at your Christmas card!  ;) :P Too funny!!  ;D

Huh? I didn't even know there were earthquakes here. LOL.

Randomly enough, the UK actually gets about 200-300 earthquakes every year, but they are usually so small that we don't feel them.

I was really disappointed a couple of years ago because there was that magnitude 5.2 quake in Lincolnshire (Feb 2008) and I missed it because was living in New Mexico at the time... studying earthquakes/seismic activity there :P, so I've still never actually experienced an earthquake firsthand (I was in South America when the massive 8.8 quake hit Chile earlier this year, but thankfully I was in Peru at the time and didn't get to Chile until a month later).

My husband felt this in Derby...he had just gotten back from California and I was still there sorting out my visa. I used to live in the SF Bay Area (East Bay) and I've literally felt hundreds of tiny quakes -- the biggest being a 4 and it's a bit frightening to begin with, but after the first few it was like 'oh, cool another quake...what's for dinner?'  :P
