We had screens on every window in Croatia too.  Seriously, it must just be the UK that likes bugs....

We need them to keep bees from getting in and getting trapped.  Plus, we get more flies than I'd like because our neighbours have livestock.  We're looking at replacing our windows... I'm going to push for fitted screens if we do.  At least for the windows we open most frequently (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom).

Bull crap. My first year in Germany (1989-90) I had a bug net over my bed because the mosquitoes were so bad. Probably sucked enough chemicals into my lungs to kill me at some point. That was the worst year for bugs.....in the 10 years I was there....to be fair.

Butternut squash.

I love it, but it takes friggin' so long to peel, deseed and slice. For some reason I decided it made sense to do two. ::)

Now I've got orange hands and the orange colour is slowly peeling off (five hours later). It looks like a peeling sunburn on the palm of my hands, but it's the colour of a really bad spray tan. ::)

Mosquitos are the thing that scare me without screens honestly. My kitty still managed to get bitten by a mosquito carrying heartworm in the states even with screens (they didn't tell me til after the fact I could've given her a pill to make her immune, most are protected by the flea preventers I'm allergic to and thus always declined so I wouldn't be allergic to my cuddly cat.) Skeeters carry too many nasty things!

I bake the halves and scoop it out of the peel. So much easier! But I feel your pain... If I don't do that I pay the markup to have someone else make the effort for me.

That sounds like a great idea. What temp do you bake them at and for how long?

I don't think it would have worked this time, but I might use that trick in the future. I was making butternut squash noodles to make butternut squash 'mac' and cheese. I made it last week and it was sooooo yummy. Worth the orange palms, but I won't get the reward of tasty food until I bake it this weekend so until then, it's just an annoyance.

I haven't here yet, but 350F for 45 mins or until tender. Then let it cool a bit!

I did that once.  ONCE. I now pay the giant premium to get the already peeled and diced one.   ;D

It's my birthday.  I'm 46 today. I've been labouring under the assumption for most of the year that I was already 46. Lol

We travelled to Dunoon today and we are staying the night in an Airbnb.  After a full day of activities, including a 2 hour hike through the beautiful Argyll Forest and Pucks Glen,  I fell asleep at 9pm. I'm flipping knackered.

That swan tried to murder me as did the forest.

That is the wee blind cat that lives at our Airbnb.

No plans for tomorrow but I'm thinking Largs and Millport.
