I live in a semi-detached house and my next-door neighbour (other side of the wall) moved out last July because the landlord decided to do the place up and sell it. The house has been empty ever since, with just an occasional car parked outside and a bit of work going on inside... until a couple of weeks ago. Since earlier this month, there have been 1-3 cars/vans parked outside most of the time and various banging noises going on.

But that's not my IA - I can deal with work being done, but what I can't deal with is the annoying, whining dog that has been in that house for the last few days. It has been whining constantly... all day, every day. I've been home from work for 15 minutes and it hasn't stopped whining since I arrived home :(.

The old neighbour had a dog (which I never heard), and she also had a son who was in a band and would practice his music sometimes, but none of that bothered me at all. This whiny dog, however :(... I'm just glad I only have a few more days here before I leave for the Falklands again!

Are people in there constantly or are they just leaving the dog alone most of the time?? Poor thing! :(

Yeah, just wondering if said dog is lonely. Some dogs love alone time and some dogs really get stressed out!

I wondered this same thing!

But, actually, maybe they've just shut the dog in a room on the other side of your adjacent wall, to keep the dog from getting in the way of the work.  You should ask if there is a different room they could shut the dog in, if that's what it is.

Especially if it's a new environment and they don't have anything to keep them entertained. Could be stressed or just really bored.

I'm not sure - it seems to whine whether there are people home or not, because I've heard people moving around in the house, and the dog whining at the same time.

I'm working 12-hour day shifts the next 2 days, and then a night shift before leaving the house on Friday, and I won't be back until the end of May... so it's probably not worth saying anything, because after this week, I won't be here to get annoyed by it anymore.

If you'll be getting enough sleep until you leave, yeah, I'd skip mentioning it 'til you've returned.  Then, whatever works they might be doing in the house should hopefully be completed (unless they're like my husband and me... two years on and nothing really started), so if the dog is being shut in a room out of the way, that will have resolved on its own.

Well, I haven't heard the dog at night... it's mostly been annoying me while I've been trying to watch TV/chill out at home :P. I'm hoping they'll have finished most of the work they're doing by the time I get back (though it did take them months to start it in the first place).

It's taken us 2 years and we have no start date in mind.  My husband said on Saturday that he would "email the guy about the render tomorrow."  Now it's the day after tomorrow, and no such email was sent.  I hope your new neighbours are more efficient than my husband.  ;)

Extra grumpy today for some reason...Making me even more grumpy that I'm still waiting on the UKVI email. Not really an IA, but just wanted to vent that I'm feeling particularly grumpy about it today as we're halfway through the day and I've still heard nothing. Just makes me more nervous that maybe something wasn't done right or I made a mistake.

Wish they asked me for feedback about my experience with this new process as I'd tell them it's probably not wise for them to advise of dates :)

None of us slept last night.  Both kids have colds.  Baby up first with his terrible cough.  Took me HOURS to fall back asleep.  4 year old next with an earache, crying and unable to sleep.  She's now on antibiotics and off school and I'm working from home (not really "done" at my job).  She is bouncing off the walls.  But she didn't sleep and was a hysterical mess this morning.  Ugh.  But she's fine now and since she's got antibiotics in her, I know she'll be fine.  I just hate using the WFH card when it's unnecessary.

And I'm soooooooo tired!

I remember when the Daughter was young that the people I worked with who either had stay-at-home wives or did not have children did not have a clue exactly how much work taking care of children was. And how when you pair that with working outside the home, how utterly exhausting it could be.  ::)

Hang in there, and remember to try to take care of yourself in all this!

I hope they are both better soon and that you get some sleep! I am sure your workplace will understand the WFH occasionally knowing you have two little ones.

Married 1966, left UK 1969, returned 1998, left again 2000, returned June 2014 (husband on spousal visa) granted FLR(M) November 30th 2016  and ILR on  24th May, 2019. Yeah!
