Well, my IA is trivial by comparison.....bathroom faucet decided to die last night, so I get to play plumber today! Oh joy!

You get to play plumber. I get to pay the plumber.  Lol

Actually not, the landlord is paying him. But now I seriously need a nap.

Oh, gosh, what a nightmare! It's a good thing you weren't home alone!

When we first moved in our flat I thought I had been locking the front door, as when I pulled the handle up the deadbolts engaged. I didn't realize I then had to insert the key into the lock to "lock" them there.  We spent a month with our door not locked at night, and there were at least a few times when we thought we heard someone come in. But I thought I was imagining it. I am pretty sure it was our upstairs neighbor teens and/or his friends. We found out it wasn't locked when one night we were in the living room and upstairs and his kid sister just walked in. And when we said "who are you and what do you want" they turned around and ran like hell.  Went and bought a chain for the door the next morning, and futzed around with the lock until we figured out how to make it work. It's now a nightly ritual - turn the lights in the LR off. Check to make sure I've not left a burner on on the stovetop. Put the chain on and check the doorhandle, then turn off the hall light and waddle off to bed.

This thing about having to lock your door from the inside with a key is soooo odd!

Police came back out tonight for fingerprints but they didn't find anything of evidentiary value.  Oh well.

I'm sure he didn't intend to break in with the intention of stealing anything, damaging anything or for anything other dubious reason.

Just a drugged up guy who made his way into the wrong flat thinking he was at his friends flat.

Did you hear about the London criminal who fell foul of the Glasgow Mafia?
Apparently they made him an offer he couldn't understand.

{rim shot}

No, seriously. It's getting tough. Two years and I STILL can't understand a large number of the people with whom I interact. Thankfully I can pull the "I'm sorry, I'm old and a little deaf, could you repeat that again for me, dear" thing and get away with it.

But...sigh. ::)

Oh my god that’s terrifying! Finding out the noise is coming from inside your house? A person standing in your bathtub?? That’s a crazy amount of damage for someone to inflict so quickly. Glad you’re okay!!

Today I learned that they do not use the same "twilight sedation" for medical procedures here that they do in the states. After posting about my experience on social media, learned nearly every other woman I know here has had the same experience as me. Choking, gasping for air, feeling every movement of the scope down their throat. Why don't doctors listen or pay attention to the patient? I am definitely going to be filing a complaint, but only after the follow up because I don't want it to keep me from receiving treatment.

I had "the other procedure" for Ulcerative Colitis (routine every few years) with sedation. It wasn't comfortable by any stretch but it wasn't terrible either and I do feel like they listened to me. I guess some Drs are worse than others! Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

I definitely posted about it when I had my endoscopy done.  I'm pretty sure Kfdancers husband had the same experience.

It was flipping horrible.

I’m sorry if you had a bad experience. I was told I would be aware of the procedure but would not really  feel anything. I was so lucky as I went out like a light,  as far as I was concerned at least! Now, my sigmoidoscopy was a different matter! Most uncomfortable but luckily I expected it to be.
Married 1966, left UK 1969, returned 1998, left again 2000, returned June 2014 (husband on spousal visa) granted FLR(M) November 30th 2016  and ILR on  24th May, 2019. Yeah!

Just guessing you're a man? All of the people who shared my experience were women.... Its well documented that doctors discount women in pain much more rapidly than men. I wouldnt have consented to the procedure if I had known I would be fully aware and awake for it, that they wouldn't confirm the medication for sedation had taken effect first. You can't take away consent while choking. I was assaulted by my doctor because they had been notified in advance the numbing does not take effect on me. They still tried it, it gave me a migraine from the flavoring but that was it.

Wow. That's really bad. Sorry you experienced that. I felt like I had full control to say stop and I did several times ask them to pause which they did. I take your point about response to a woman. Really sorry for you going through that.

I totally feel for you margo.  :(  *hugs*

I learned the same lesson years ago.  Despite me saying I needed sedation, they were insistent that was only because I used to have this procedure in the US where they over-medical'ed everything.  Most patients don't need sedation and tolerate the procedure well without it, they said.  You'll be fine, they said.  Well, after a horrible experience (both for me and the medical professionals), a note was hastily added to my chart that I do NOT tolerate this procedure well and should be given sedation in the future.

THAT is what I was TRYING to tell you!

I'm sorry you had to experience that as well.  *huge hugs*  Definitely request a note be added to your medical records so you hopefully won't have the same reluctance to sedate you in the future.

Yeah, my husband had a horrible horrible experience and now no longer trusts doctors!  I had taken off of work to drive him so he could have sedation.  Then when he went back, they talked him into not having it.  8 minutes of torture followed where he was crying his eyes out.  So definitely not just a woman thing.  Then he came out and was greeted with his wife calling him a moron for not opting for sedation.   ;D

I'm really sorry to hear you had a crap experience as well.  I hope you can have your voice heard next time.
