My DF just sat here and read some of the posts here. Her reaction? "God you yanks are a bunch of right whingers..." LOL

Your DF should have a look at the British Expat boards....she will see it certainly isn't only us Yanks that are whingers :)

I'm sure you didn't mean it to Weby, but that came across to me as really snappy.

I'm sure there are all sorts of boards where people with things in common get together to have a good moan and support each other, we certainly aren't the only one!

The main difference I've noticed between this board and the BritishExpats one is that, here, when people are whinging, others are generally sympathetic and helpful.  On the BritishExpats board, they just tear into whomever is having trouble.

So, we may all whinge a lot, be we're also much nicer.  Or at least more tactful. :)

My DH says the same thing if he reads this board, and i always say to him just wait until we move to the US and you'll understand. You'll complain about weird light switches, how toilets flush, and the lack of your favorite tea time treat too!  ;D

I think this is the perfect place to moan and whinge.  The people here have had  or are going through similar experiences.  As woadgrrl says, it is a place that is supportive.  Sometimes really you just need to get something off your chest to people who "get" what you mean and don't judge you for homesickness or a perfectly valid comparison of life here vs the US.

Best of all, it is an appropriate place because you can vent without nasty consequences of offending friends and family who might take the complaints personally.

Well, most people post when they're in pain and not when they're adjusted. I posted several times back when I was separated from my husband of 8 years for several months and both of us were miserable. Now that I've arrived and adjusted, I don't post much, because I don't have any issues to get sorted or questions to ask at the moment. Everyone whinges in the right circumstances. It's hardly fair to judge people without the whole picture.

That's what the Airing Cupboard is for! A board completely made for whinging!  ;D

Anyways, regardless of it being the airing cupboard, this is also a very supportive place, so, lets all be nice in this thread, please.  Thanks.

I literally don't know what I would've done if there was no airing cupboard when we lived with my in-laws. I think I would've imploded or something. Plus, I don't think of it so much as whinging, just sharing stories and experiences, and getting advice from others that are more experienced with UK life.

Meh, everyone needs to whine sometimes.  It just happens to be all in one place. It is human nature, just wait until the bus doesn't show up in the UK then you'll hear some whining.

We live on a council estate outside Manchester, so certainly not a representative sample here of all of England, but the perception I have found is that Americans are soft, whiny and overly emotional...oh yeah, and fat. I'm sure opinions vary.

Sounds like me....

Except the fat part - I am built like a Greek god
