I suppose splurge, since half our weekly shop is fresh fruits and veggies.

Magazines?

Save.  I only get the odd magazine once in a while.

Save. I left all my books in America and have converted to Kindle-ism (for practical reasons, although I still love the "real" books). Nearly every book on it is from the free collections available online.

Salon visits?

It used to be save as I had waist-length to butt-length hair and every couple of years my sister would trim it for me.

Now it's splurge as I get it professionally colored every three months (should be more though!) and cut maybe twice a year or so (it's not crazy-long anymore).

Kitchen stuff (pots, pans, small appliances, gadgets, etc)?

In the States it was a bit of a splurge. I was a Pampered Chef fanatic and had loads and loads of it, plus I loved all the fun small appliances that made life easier. I haven't had the same buying spree over here yet, but I am working on getting my Pampered Chef stuff over a bit at a time with each visit home.

Lotions/body care things.

Save. With digital cameras there are generally people around who can take quality pics for less than a professional would charge.

Tea.
Save and Splurge.  For peppermint tea, the store brand is fine.  For red bush and 'normal' tea, I like to get a brand name as it's just so much better in quality and taste.  We prefer Yorkshire Tea for our 'normal' tea, but I forget which brand we currently have of red bush.

Save. I generally get the cheaper ones because they all taste the same.

Save.  We used hubby's old plates for ages until a few of them broke.  We finally replaced them with a set of plain white ones with matching bowls from IKEA.

Splurge. I have a few pairs of black, a few of white, a few solid colored ones of other colors, but the rest are all character socks or a design of some kind. I have over 100 pairs of socs and I think of it as a wearable collection.
