Anybody got this flipping cold?
« on: September 18, 2011, 04:24:20 PM »
It's the usual thing: sore throat, following by stuffy head and coughing. But it also has a mood component. I feel shaky, unutterably depressed and a bit anxious.

I'd think that was coincidence, but my husband got it a week ago and described it the same way (he had some nausea, too).

My husband has a cold/sore throat etc, but isn't moody.

Thus far, I have managed to stave it off - dosing myself with Sambucol & trying to get some extra sleep.

Are you sure you don't have a flu - because the moodiness thing sounds a bit more flu-ey to me?

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks. Probably is something other than a straight rhinovirus. It's a little weird.

MrRed5 was kind enough to share something similar with the girls and I-thanks in no part to him being packed like a sardine on the train to work.  He had it a few weeks ago and  said earlier today he feels like he is coming down with it again.  He ended up taking a day off of work but when I came down with it I just got on with life as Mum's don't get days off.
Hope you feel better soon!  :)

My MIL, myself and my 11 yr old SIL all picked it up while at Skeggy last week. Thinking coming out of the holiday camp pool with wet hair... It was annoying as I had the congestion and sore throat, but it wasnt enough to keep me bedridden but enough to make me feel miserable. I was also really airheaded - not finishing sentences, forgetting why I had gone into a room, etc.

Both my daughter and I do! But it's not something I brought back from my travels in England. It's most likely from the kids at Maddy's school lol. Ugh! I would like to be able to breathe again.. Nose is leaking like a faucet, throat is dry and scratchy and I have a slight cough! :-\\\\ Been drinking lots of tea and eating lots of soup still no luck!

yup we've got it too. Hubward brought it home last week. No amount of lemsip is making a dent in this one. And he's given it to me as the gift that keeps giving.

I've got it too :( My main problem is that you can only take paracetamol while you are pregnant!  Stuffy nose and sore, razor blade like throat :(

Hope it passes soon and that everyone feels better!!

Yep, I've had it. And have been forgetting why I've gone into a room all weekend!
Have now passed it on to DH (why are men such babies when they're ill?!)
My parents and sister are staying with us at the moment and I think we're giving it to them too. It's all fun round here!

Hope everyone feels better soon :)

Gentle hugs to everyone who is ill.  I'm so sorry you are not well, but I hope each day finds you feeling better.

((((((((((Hugs))))))))))   We take herbs at the first sign of a cold, but when my brother had it go into his chest I gave him a mixture of red clover and mullein tea to help get it out.  Usually we take echinacea and olive leaf at the start so it doesn't progress to that phase.  Mom used to get bronchitis all the time, and once had pneumonia, until I insisted she use the herbs. Once she started using them, she never got bronchitis or pneumonia again.  But not everyone does well on herbs. Always check with a doctor, first.  You're also supposed to limit intake of dairy products because it makes more congestion and phlegm.

I've pretty much gotten over it (aside from my attractive first-thing-in-the-morning hack and snort), but my husband is still struggling two weeks later.

So this is something other than a run-of-the-mill rhinovirus.

MIL had a sneezing, coughing and runny nose ickiness for the better part of two months before she finally got over it. Hubby has had the plague as described above by others for a couple days now. He seems to be getting over the worst of it, but I'd say he still has a couple more days of minor misery ahead of him.

I am hoping to dodge it. I've had the sneezes, off and on ear and throat aches and pains, but that is all normal for me this time of year with allergies.

I don't know if mine is a cold or if I am just run down from not being able to catch up on my sleep combined with allergies.  For instance, this morning it went like this:

7:30-wake because this is the time we normally wake on weekdays.  Try to fall back to sleep.
7:55-get up and feed cat before he wakes Mr A.  Cat knows I am awake and will progressively get more and more annoying until I feed him, including jumping on me and wailing like a newborn baby.
8:05-Computer makes funny beeping noises.  We're doing maintenance on it so it was on overnight doing scans.  Wake husband to check on it who gets all pissy.
8:05:32-Nose starts pouring liquid.  Sneeze uncontrollably for about 5 minutes. Try to go back to sleep
9:01-Post through the box.  It's got a security spring on it, so it slams and wakes me out of my semi-sleep state.  Decide to read the paper on my phone.
9:30-Switch to my book.
9:45-start to feel sleepy.  Drift off to sleep.
10:05-Doorbell rings.  It's Jehovah's Witnesses.  Mr A answers and gets rid of them. Try to go back to sleep.
10:10-Cat decides it's time for him to look out the bedroom window.  Jumps on bed, walks along my side of the bed, jumps on me, starts fiddling with the shade so it makes a "wabbly wabbly" sound like old fashioned fake thunder metal sheets used for radio plays and by Foley artists.  Decide to get up.

This is fairly typical for a Saturday.  Sundays are slightly better, but I rarely sleep beyond 8:30.  Weekdays I am usually up around the time Mr A wakes.  Some weekend days, Mr A sleeps in until well after noon, but is rarely up before 11.

We went to bed at 2 AM.  I'd go to bed earlier, but there is no way I can get Mr A to bed early on the weekends.  Even on weeknights, he's up until at least 1 AM.  Then he complains that he's too tired to do crap.

I am not sure if this is allergies (which I had "grown out of" until I moved here) or this lurgey everyone's talking about, but I feel like crap.
