I made waffles for brunch this morning instead. I never seem to make good pancakes at home, I'm not sure why but I can never get them quite right. So I stopped bothering. Anyway, waffles are easier and I made them vegan and whole grain so I don't feel so bad about eating them.

I am a sucker for fluffy American pancakes - and my kids are too.  My 14yr old daughter just had a sleepover and insisted I cook pancakes for them all.  Who knew 10 teenage girls could eat so much?!

The recipe I use is from BBC Food website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/fluffyamericanpancak_74828 [nofollow]

And we buy Mrs Butterworths from an import store.  So worth it!

Dh & I went to ASDA sadly they don't carry Bisquick so no pancakes for me tonight. :(  :P

It would have been quicker to make your own than to go all the way to the supermarket! Seriously - it's a 10-minute job max.

I wanted the Bisquick cause neither of us are bakers we didn't have any of the ingredients to make pancakes from scratch. so we would have had to go to the store to get the ingredients anyways to make them from scratch. ;)  :) we have to pass by ASDA on our way home anyways so it wasnt like we were going out of our way to get the Bisquick.

I made American pancakes on pancake day... just got a recipe off the internet. Never seen Bisquick here ever, and as others have said it's just as easy to DIY it, and I think they tast fresher and nicer.   I had them with real butter and real maple syrup.   I prefer the fake maple syrup, but couldn't find any.  But the pancakes were delish!

surprisingly, you can actually buy delicious pancake mix from TK Maxx, the clothes store!
I think it's called aunt Jemima's or something, very very good though!

That's only if they have it in stock which isn't always the case. TK Maxx is always a bit hit and miss when it comes to US products. I use Bisquick to make pancakes and that is available at Tesco's. Not sure about other food chains as we only have a Tesco's on the IOM.

I have found Aunt Jemima at Selfridges and Ocado (online delivery store). It is a bit expensive though. And they have the syrup as well. I have not bought it myself as of yet but I will soon. Love it  ;D

Bye for now,
Nikki

Last time I did the Jamie Oliver recipe I used my electric whisk to beat it and they came out really fluffy!

I don't use any fat to cook mine.

I saw it at Tesco last week but couldn't justify the price at 6GBP. Ouch! My kids will get me to cave in some day, soon, I'm sure.

See my problem is the syrup, we always had the pancake syrup and I am not a fan of actual maple syrup  :P

I do not know if this is helpful or not, but growing up on our farm in Kansas and even now if we run out of syrup we just make our own, which to be fair I actually prefer, it just doesn't keep for long periods of time. We make our own syrup using equal parts of caster sugar, brown sugar and water. This way you can make a little or a lot. Bring it to a boil and then pour over your pancakes.  Pancakes with hot piping syrup are amazing!!  I will warn you that this recipe is not thick it is really runny, which allows for the pancakes to soak it up nicely.  I hope this will help fill your pancake and syrup craving!!!!
