I must say that by the end of Innocent Traitor, I was getting quite tired of Lady Jane's character...good book but glad it is over :)

Now I am reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte for the January book club meeting...

Please let me know what you thought of it once you're done. I'd love to have someone else's opinion on it!

I liked it.  I thought it didn't finish as well as it began.  Although it was interesting, and I will recommend it to some people I think will enjoy it, I thought it unravelled a bit for Thomas and she couldn't figure out how to put the book together after it did.  I think she painted herself in a corner with the thought experiment.  But I think I might be judging it too harshly because it started so strong.

To say it didn't change how I think about things would be lying.  My husband says he might have a crack at it before we have to bring it back to the library.

That was my main critique of it too. I liked it and thought it put forth its ideas in a very interesting way. But that entire epilogue could have safely been dropped and the book would have been the better for it. IMHO. :)

I got the outer dark for xmas and devoured it in an hour much to my family's xmas morning annoyance.

I really enjoyed it, cormac has a way of putting me "in the zone" where all i care about is finding out what happens next.

I recently finished "Not In My Name, A Compendium of Modern Hypocrisy" by Julie Burchill and Chase Newkey-Burden.

It has some stuff on anti-Americanism in Britain which would probably be of interest to many UKYers.

I also recently read Terry Pratchett's "Nation", which I enjoyed very much.

A Woman Named Jackie by C. David Heymann.  My mom gave it to me just before I moved to Glasgow last summer but it was such a big volume, I couldn't fit it in my suitcase.  I reclaimed it when I was in Seattle earlier this month and I'm really enjoying it.

I just finished Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. I have to say, I wasn't a huge fan. I found it really boring.

Next up is An Equal Music by Vikram Seth.

I've just finished The Safe Room by Nicci French (utter shite) and Counting My Chickens by the Duchess of Devonshire (utterly charming!). Now I'm wading through Kay Boyle's My Next Wife and am finding it tough going.

I didn't read Gilead, but my mom did for her book club and she LOVED it.  Really, she couldn't shut up about what an amazing book it was.  I suppose I should give it a try myself, just to have my own opinion about it.

The Optimists by Andrew Miller.  I couldn't get into it the first time I tried reading it, but since I was planning to go to the library today, I wanted to give it another try.  It's much better this time.

I'm re-reading The Good Soldier (it's great) for my Book Club, and am also starting on Larkrise to Candleford for an online discussion thing.

Okay, now I'm reading The Audacity of Hope because I promised myself I'd read it before Obama's inaguration.

Okay, now I'm reading The Audacity of Hope because I promised myself I'd read it before Obama's inaguration.

Excellent idea - and a great book! (I finished it before Christmas).

Since then I have also read Watching the English, which was recommended by Legs Akimbo.  I highly recommend this book as well, it will save people a lot of aggravation and frustration based on not realising that often what is frustrating them is not personal or necessarily meant to be insulting to them, it is often simply happening as part of a different culture that people need to understand and adapt to if they want to live and work more harmoniously in the UK.

I am now reading The Kite Runner which is fantastic so far.  I read A Thousand Splendid Suns (by the same author) several months ago, for the London book club, and really thought it was a great book.  I love the author's writing style - I feel as though he has grabbed me by the neck to command and hold my attention.

Next up is Tortilla Curtain, to be completed before the next London book club meeting!   ;D
