I think that's what I'm going to take on holiday. I used to take fluff (i.e. chick lit) with me on holiday but I finish them too fast!

Not sure how long you're going to be gone, but I would say this is a pretty quick read too -- though definitely not chick lit.  It's not a big book anyway.  Meaning you may want a second book available just in case! :)

Funny you should say that - I'm browsing Amazon right now!  ;) I haven't delved into a single Booker novel this year yet, so that's my plan. We're only gone a week but we're going with friends so I doubt there will be more than 2 books worth of free time.  :D

I bought all of the Booker books this time around, so if there's anything you want, just say the word and it'll be in the post to you! I have sold one or two on Amazon already, though. Also, most of the ones I bought were in hardback. If you're like me, you prefer lightweight paperbacks on holiday. But the offer still stands!

Oooh belindaloo I might take you up on the Booker offer!  Have to see what the list looks like first though...am dying for some good reads and hate spending too much at the bookstores.  Much prefer libraries but our local is not great.

No problem, Geeta! I still think there may be a couple I haven't got around to reading yet, but as long as you don't mind a) waiting for me to finish, or b) posting them back when you're finished, then we have a deal! :D

Right, well Never Let Me Go was a quick read, but I'll have to say it just didn't do all that much for me...too sleepy perhaps for my taste.  DH liked it though.

Now I've started Northern Lights -- which is the first book of the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.  This series has sometimes been compared to Harry Potter.  DH said he thought the writing (of this first book) was better than Harry Potter...lol...it wouldn't have to be too good to be better than...  But I'm still a bona fide Harry Potter fan nonetheless! :)

Has anyone ever read any of Jodi Picoult's books?  I picked up Salem Falls from the library the other day, but haven't started reading it.  Also got James Pattersons Sam's Letters to Jennifer, but am currently reading Almost French by Sarah Turnbull for bookclub.  It's an interesting book in that it's about an Australian ex-pat who moves to France to be with the man she loves.  I chose it for bookclub, since we are all ex-pats and most of us can relate to the book in terms of moving for our SO's and adjusting to a different culture, although England isn't quite France, but the concept remains the same.

I read two of her books, "My Sister's Keeper" and "The Pact". Both were ok reading. She seems to be a bit cookie cutter in her writing and by the time I finished the second book I was firmly convinced I wouldn't be reading anymore of her books.

She's not necessarily a bad writer, I just didn't much enjoy the storylines and I think she tried to make up for her lack of style with intriguing stories.

I'm still trying to get through "Broke Heart Blues" and I'm thinking of putting it aside. I picked up "Middlesex" a while back and just found it again. Anyone read it?

Yep - I just finished it a few weeks ago.  I think I liked it, but am still a bit unsure.  :) Belindaloo liked it quite a bit!

I really loved Middlesex too! It's been a while since I read it so I'm not sure I could tell you exactly why I liked it so much, but I think he's an amazing writer.

I just ordered a huge load of stuff from amazon (so won't need to take Helen up on her very kind offer any time soon). Not sure which ones will come to Italy with me, but I can't wait to get the package! Yay!

Though right now I really need to be reading about how Gardner's theory of intelligence is or isn't supported by savant syndrome.  ::) If anyone is thinking of doing a master's degree and wants to be talked out of it, just let me know.  ;)

Horrible Histories Collections: The Groovy Greeks and the Rotten Romans

I know it's a kids book - but when I wanted to find a book about Greeks and Romans - I couldn't find anything that wasn't Brit-centric.  This is a cute book and very informative.

That's a wonderful series of books! When I worked in the giftshop of the Castle a couple of summers ago, we sold them and I'd read then whenever it got quiet.
